So, you mean all of ChicagoHey hey now…I am a chicago resident. Sure there are seedy areas but if you are in the 3rd largest city in the US its going to get rough. Common sense applied rules for sure. Especially South of 18th street, and west of western.
West of western or east? And by Western, you mean Kedzie, right?Hey hey now…I am a chicago resident. Sure there are seedy areas but if you are in the 3rd largest city in the US its going to get rough. Common sense applied rules for sure. Especially South of 18th street, and west of western.
It's all a matter of perspective. I know a lot of people from Chicago and they will tell you it's far safer than St. Louis. And statistically speaking they are correct. Per capita St. Louis is the murder capital of the country.Hey hey now…I am a chicago resident. Sure there are seedy areas but if you are in the 3rd largest city in the US its going to get rough. Of course I don't think too many of the people I know from Chicago, or any people I know who like to go up and hang out in Chicago for the weekend or whatever, spent much time on the south side of Chicago. In St. Louis proper there is really no "Safe" neighborhoods anymore.
It's too late for all that. The people that are willing to do what it takes to combat crime have all left. I was born and partially raised on the south side of St. Louis and I can't think of a single event other than work that would ever make me go there. Not just because of crime, though that is the reason I would never take my wife or daughter there, but the place just sucks now. Too many people, too much BS.

When I was retiring from the military I was an IT guy with a Top Secret/SCI clearance and Sprint who has a Sprint Campus in Overland Park which is a city within the Kansas City Metro was doing all they could to recruit me to work for them there. A prior service employee with an active clearance is gold when it comes to bidding on Government Contracts. I had 3 teenage high schoolers at the time and there was not enough money to get me to move to Kansas City for that exact reason. It was tough. They were offering me insane amounts of money to go work for them, never caved, no regrets...t's all a matter of perspective. Its sad. Most cities.
Hood rats rule.
Everyone else suffers
Grocery and basic services dont want to be there due to crime , safety and theft.
Our grocers call it a food desert.
No real grocery stores for miles and inner city cant get a way to shop for lack of transportation. So convenience store food wins the day. Which creates all sorts of health problems .. among other problems
vicious cycle

There is a St. Louis bypass route. I-255. I’d use it.Based on this thread when I do fully retire and start traveling I’ll avoid Chicago and St. Louis at all cost.
Honestly I’ll just avoid Illinois. There is a St. Louis bypass route. I-255. I’d use it.
I can get from here to Henry’s Fork Idaho without going through an anti gun state.Honestly I’ll just avoid Illinois.
I want to see the Grand Canyon and areas of Montana, also Mount Rushmore.
I always wanted to visit Oregon but the Woke Bull going on in that state has turned me off.
Also want to travel the west coast shoreline north to south before it slides into the pacific.
So, you mean all of Chicago
Area52, I've heard that the dead already vote in Chicago! Besides, the current admin will do whatever to appease the Russians and Chinese to keep that from happening. Think how many voters the Dems would lose should that happen to all the Blue, crime ridden cities from sea to shining sea! But that would be a steep price to pay and I doubt many of us would live long enough to see an "improvement".There‘s a long lost saying that “if they ever dropped the atom bomb (here), blowing up and obliterate an entire neighborhood back to the stone age, it would still be an improvement.”
