Tributes have been pouring in for Memphis police officer Joseph McKinney was killed in a shootout with two teens early Friday. One of the teens was arrested last month and let go, prompting officials to call for tougher sentences.

I seriously doubt that the judge will lose sleep over what his decisions have allowed to transpire. They rarely do. I know nothing of the Tennessee criminal code, but I've got to believe auto theft X's two and weapons charges for an adult would command appropriate cash/surety bond, or a room reservation. No excuses.

If they are not setting bond on felons with gun crimes or violent felonies the system is broken.
