On this installment of I was wrong

Y'know what.. I was wrong.

I have a lot more respect for a .22 LR because of some of the things I have learned. I've always thought it was an awesome (insert /gun) varmint rifle, training rifle, plinking rifle etc but never considered it viable for self defense (still FAR better rounds than that in my opinion but FAR better than nothing) or as a last resort riot control round.

I just learned the IDF uses and used them for riots by knee capping the violent ones. This would cause 2-3 people to carry another off the scene thereby extinguishing the riot in short order.

I also saw Paul Harrell demonstrate the 22 out of a 10/22 on his meat target. I was pretty impressed. Still, I think there are better rounds for certain purposes, but I have a lot more respect for the .22LR.

I learned all this while watching videos and planning upgrades to my 10/22.

I read this article several years ago. It stated that more people had died as a result of being shot with a .22 caliber round that any other in Chicago in the 1970s.

the "mafia" hitmen have been using the lowly .22 for decades. makes the bullet rattle around inside the head and do a lot of damage to the brain, then death, and doesn't usually exit, and is much quieter.....
Maybe a .22 short wouldn't leave a head but a .22lr fired point blank would most likely pass through.

I shoot thousands of .22lr a month hitting different types of targets and it may surprise you but .22lr can penetrate a lot of tough materials.

I've even shot the low powered .22lr CCI Quiets clean through a 1-3/4 thick piece of white oak standing 5ft away.

i know from what i had seen, a mob hitman telling his story during a mob week expose, on the local news. he claimed a 22 would rattle around in the head, doing all sorts of damage, and not exiting.

be it a 22 short, i don't know, maybe so....but it was "his choice" of weapon many times.

Without reading the article, I wonder how many of those were hits? In other words, point blank executions.

Anytime I see “awesome event here*” and the asterisk down below says *The IDF Does This” I just nod because my brain interprets it as But Don’t Think You Can Do This.
