One in the chamber? Always!

Although I’ve never personally had an AD/ND I remember while working for Mossberg and Managing there packing department one of my final inspectors that receive guns from the proofing room failed to properly inspect a bolt action rifle for live rounds before pulling the trigger and sending a 300 Win mag round through the outside wall of the building. Luckily the rifle was pointed up and away from all employees it happened in a room filled with over 100 people packing guns. If you stop and think how tragic this could have been it sends cold chills up your spine. Two employees lost there jobs that day, one from the proofing room and the inspector, fortunately nobody was injured or killed.
There is no doubt carrying a gun with a chambered round is a personal decision but whether you do or don’t the cardinal rule, treat every gun that it is loaded until it absolutely isn’t and never point a weapon at anything you don’t intend to destroy.
