Stationed at Luke AFB 1980-82. Sometimes flight line duty…them be some L.O.U.D. mothers…

During that time, I believe they were teaching foreigners how to fly them, while USAF pilots were flying F15s. The F16s didn’t arrive there until after I left.

From Wiki…

“F-16 Falcon era

312th TFTS – F-16D Block 25 83-1175 Aircraft marked as "F-16D No. 1"
The 310th and 311th TFTS retained their F-4Cs until April 1982, ending the Phantom era at Luke, receiving Block 1 F-16A Fighting Falcons in November 1982 and April 1983.”

I agree about the loudness. I was on the tarmac at the FBO Duluth, MN while F4's were taking off (MN Air National Guard circa 1983 +/-?) about 150 yards from where we were standing. Never been that close to something that loud before (gunfire not-withstanding).

safe from the jet wash as i've been behind a few (non-military) jets as they were lifting off. even some small civilian/private jets have some fair amount of wash! example, lear24 has engines for larger jets (2,800-3,100 # of thrust) is enough to turn an atv upside down while seated on it...........ask me how i know 🤣 . those engines are like having a big block in a compact car on that small of an airplane. i could only imagine what it could do if it were 5 and 10 times as powerful when low level passover flights? the only issue with that version (24) is there wasn't any reversers. it had a chute in case it was needed (only used it once when landing).

The last F-4 I saw flying was a Heritage flight ship at an air show in Duluth.

It was stripped down an put an impressive aerial display, nothing like what some think is a brick in the air.

Matter of fact, it was more maneuverable than the F-35's demonstration I watched this past summer at an airshow at Fairchild AFB.
