Painting a rifle stock?

Grayfox

Professional
I have a Springfield M1A Scout/Squad rifle that I bought used. Love the rifle, but it has a woodland camo synthetic stock that I absolutely hate. I do like the feel and weight of the stock, just don't care for the color.
I have considered painting it black, my preferred color, but I'm concerned that I may just screw it up. Will the paint hold up? Will it chip, flake, etc. I'm thinking about using the Krylon stuff specially made for plastics.
looking for advice from those who have painted a stock before. How did it come out? Did it hold up? Did it last? Any advice?

Pretty much what I figured. I certainly don't want to mess it up. Just thought I'd explore this option.
Guess I'll watch for a good used stock and hopefully sell this one to cover its cost.
Its not like I can't live with it. I've had the rifle for almost 10 years now. Just never really cared for that color stock.
Just one of those rainy day thoughts where your mind tends to wander.

I have a Bushmaster Ar that I had cerakoted in Multi camouflage. Holding up really well about 5 years now and shot thousands of rounds through it and it only cost me about 100 dollars to have it done. Have a few friends that did the rattle can krylon paint and it didn't hold up too well. Just my two cents...

Might want to look into Brownells Alumahyde. It's a spray on from a can that comes in multiple colors (including clear), and holds up better than Krylon and Rust-Oleum. The Links below are from Brownells where Caleb (who did a whole series of videos on Brownells, using Alumahyde painting his entire AR build), giving tips and a link from a forum on how it holds up on polymer. I'm sure there's more info out on the internet on its possibilities.

Just buy an Archangel, and sell yours.
