People losing jobs over Trump remarks.

I read an article this morning that said a number of people have lost their jobs over social media posts saying they wished the shooter hadn't missed Trump.
Now I do enjoy seeing an A-hole get their due, but I also believe in the Constitution and the 1st Amendment. I may not agree with what you say. I may even hate you for what you say. But I do support your right to say it.
Just curious, how do y'all feel about this? Is it right for a person to get fired for their opinions and social media posts?

JMHO , it isn't right to wish anyone be killed. Especially in a political position . Comments like that is what has gotten use to the point we are at today . The loonies hear this kind of talk and decide to act on it.

I believe in free speech but when it starts causing harm to others ..... enough said.

There is a big difference between something not being right and your freedom to do that thing...

i think the firings depend on where and when the social media posts were made..

1) on company property.>??

many companies do not approve of that.

2) at your house..??

then it's your business

3) at your house but you mention where/who you work for..?? such as in your social media home page.??

then you included your employer in your opinions.

4) at your house, you do not mention your employer, but you are clearly wearing company clothing that everyone can see the name, or just know that employer..??

many companies do not approve of that.

so i think circumstances dictate how or why one is fired.

There is a vast difference between imagining something horribly negative and wishing that something were true, and the dissemination, the publication of such thought. That behavior stretches way beyond simple poor judgment. IMO.

Your work isn’t obligated to respect your constitutional rights. Period. I have a right to carry a gun. I get caught with one at work guess what happens.

companies have rules that protect their brand and their business (even outside of the place of business). one can choose to follow those rules and work there without issue, or break those rules and get fired.
the bill of rights protects us from the government from infringing upon our god given rights, not companies. if someone doesn't like the company rules they are free to find employment somewhere else.

Yep.
You can have thoughts, opinions and speech. Your job is a privilege not a right.
I use to work with a guy that was a shift supervisor. He use to joke and always say, “ You can do whatever you want on your last day.”

Very true sir. It could create a moral quandary perhaps. Lets say I live in a small town and own a small business. If one of my few employees said something like these folks said, should I keep that person because they have the right to say that, or fire them because I own a small town business and if I keep them I could go out of business.

it goes like this, you on company property? you driving a company vehicle? you wearing a company uniform?

you are representing that company.

if one wants to have a social media account, then for gosh sakes, do not put your place of work in your public (or even private) profile.

never wear company clothing when off the job.

but still, so many companies have "drones" or "worms" people watching social media, even message boards like this.

just your picture on your profile page is enough to nail you.
