Watched a show once called it takes a thief. With two ex burglars on it. Two things they said were tops in deterring breakins were cameras/ visible home security signs and noisy dogs.

Thier reasoning was simple, why take the risk when there are hundreds of other, easier, less risky homes to break into.

When we are home we even lock the screen doors so they have to break through a locked outward opening door, outward opening being important to slow things down for those inside. And all windows including screen doors have a security film on them.

Agreed! I have what we Alaskans call an "Arctic Entry." Basically a mud room or enclosed porch at front and back doors for those of you that arn't aware.
A trespasser has to go through not one but two locked and heavy exterior doors. To get in the house without going through a locked window. Don't forget about my dogs. Great watchers and listeners!!!

Im on it 24/7. My wife on the other hand is not."If we didnt have locks,we would not need keys ! Makes life difficult.

Absolute best alarm is the dogs. Nobody gets in without one of them shouting, 'hey dad get your rear end up'. Have my bedside pistol if I'm in a hurry, the AR or shotgun for a slower more 'effective' response if necessary. You can cut the power but can't shut the dogs off!

Agreed! Not only dose a lock keep an honest person honest. It definitely slows down trespassers! Heck! I live in the sticks and I still lock my doors. There are some undisireables (Theiving Tweeker Methheads) even in the Alaskan bush believe it or not!

Our biggest concern is the safety of our dogs. To us they are irreplaceable. While we do count on them for a "heads up" I am deeply concerned for the day/night when the jags in black show up. We know they go for pets first.

So when they make it past Fido, and are “inside my home” at night, there will be no weapon lights.

They will have no clue where I am.

You can't possibly believe they'll arrive ill equipped. That IR illumination might very well give away your position. Little sneaky hack for that. Disable your IR light source and rely on surrounding night cams and ambient light.
