Probably a Stupid Question About 1911 Magazines...

So Pauline dc I went to the range today blasted off 150 rounds not one hiccup on my Springfield mil spec use three different magazines one factory 10 round 2 factory 7 rounds , 2 KCI very cheap ones 7 rounds and one night hawk 8 rounds smooth on all of the magazine didn’t not skip a beat

I like the flush mount too.
I used to get bargain magazines because I didn't really think there was a difference. I bought a WC magazine after I had a bargain mag blow up on me. Well it flew apart.
I will stick with WC mags.
 
So for a stocking stuffer this year my wife surprised me with a WC 8-round 1911 magazine. I already own a few of the seven-round mags as you know from my post. What surprised me was, the base pad is the same slightly thick on both. I mean, I didn’t order a flush mount when I bought the sevens, but I guess I thought the eighth would have a thicker base pad. Actually I know nothing! 😄

The magazines are the same exact height. At first you can’t tell a seven from an eight with these Wilson combat magazines. It’s the internal design is how it holds the extra round (I have the strong feeling that everyone reading this reply already knows all this, LOL). And honestly the only real cosmetic difference is they put a small circle cut out on the eight round magazine to see the 8th round. Slots are the same. Oh, one other difference, the follower on the 7 is concave (rounded out) and the 8 is convex and I like that for loading because the bullet casing just sits tighter in the “well” when pushing rounds into it.

When I bought the four 7-round magazines from Wilson combat, two at a time because of the cost, I went with sevens because I guess I thought that would be more “traditional and compatible”, etc. etc. DUH… looking back, would have definitely bought eights. All future purchases will be those. Live and learn!

Don’t forget you can always go 10 rd factory from Springfield work really good stick out a little bit but works great

I know the topic changed, but Smythbusters (Brownells) and Paul Harrell both have videos out about magazines and storage. Both sources (that I trust) tell us that storing a magazine fully compressed has no impact on a magazine's spring life. You are welcome to believe whomever you wish, though. Interesting that the compression and decompression of the mag spring is what wears it out, and that occurs when rotating ammo in and out of mags...how's that for a dilemma?
 
Silly new guy search question-I have an 9mm Ronin and purchased the Wilson Combat 1911 ETM 10 round magazine. Please forgive any bad terminology but, the WC magazines do not lock in the pistol (they pull out without requiring the magazine release), nor do they seat in the pistol without using the magazine release. These are Wilson Combat 9mm Luger. I haven't fired the pistol or used the magazines. I am not completely 1911 ignorant (but close). Any ideas? Thanks
 
Today I received two more 8 round
Mec-Gar mags for my 45ACP Emissary, it was interesting reading through this thread about mag springs, one of the new mags I loaded (kinda) very easily while the other was more difficult and I needed a mag loader to help with the last round. They are both loaded with 230 grain Remington hollow point but I won’t use them in the gun until I prove them out.

Did you try inserting the mag with the slide locked back?
 
I tried inserting with the slide locked back, no luck. The mag stops about 3/4" from seating, whether the slide is locked back or not. Any other hints or ideas? Thanks again.

My Emissary does the same thing, a sharp “not excessive” slap on the base of the mag upward should seat the magazine.
