Prodigy Upgrades

Right now my 4.25” Prodigy is at Springfield having the reliability issues addressed. When I get it back there are a couple of upgrades I’m planning. Most are pretty standard e.g. tool less guide rod and extended slide stop. I have a short trigger (because I have stubby finger) as well. Assuming reliability is not an issue what are other folks doing to the Prodigy, especially the 4.25” version, to make it better? The EGW ignition kit seems to be popular. Does it produce significant improvements in trigger pull? The nighthawk dts also looks interesting. Also what about springs? Is anyone playing with the spring weights? Specifically recoil, hammer and firing pin? If so what specifically is being done? Heavier recoil spring? Lighter hammer spring? Does a lighter hammer spring require an extra power firing pin spring? What I don’t want to do is get a fully functioning gun back from Springfield and then do something to it that hurts reliability. Just FYI I’m attaching a photo of the Nighthawk DTS. I’m starting to see good things about it including at least a couple of accounts of it improving trigger pull on the Prodigy. Also there CS dept wrote back and said they are selling a lot of these to Prodigy owners (a statement I take with a grain of salt).

Why don’t you wait until you get it back, put 500 rounds through it as is and then decide what it is you think could be better. My 5in Prodigy has 2500 rounds through it. The trigger is sub - 3lbs with no work and it is as accurate as the day is long. The only things I have changed are the the recoil rod and spring. It’s had zero problems from day one and it was one purchased the weekend they became available, so very early gun. It goes blow for blow with my Sig 226 Legion SAO RXP, which I think is one of the best guns on the market. I’m a serial modder, but I wouldn’t jack with my Prodigy, it’s just too good to screw up.

I've got at least 3500 rounds through my Prodigy. It went back to SA for a few FTF's but came back with no issues and has been running great ever since.

The only upgrades I put into it was a Dawson Precision one-piece guide rod and Dawson Precision magwell.

Everything else is perfect, trigger is about 3.5lbs with no work done on it.

SA needs to give us some swag! We’re always proselytizing for the Prodigy. C’mon SA, hook some brothers up! Free mag, t-shirt, hat, maybe a decent range bag worthy of the $1500 Club Entrance Fee, a pair of Tu Lam’s sweaty socks. We don’t care, we’re out here spreading the word!

Because I too am a serial modder and not just guns. I simply can‘t leave well enough alone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I went EGW kit, 17lb main spring. Stock pin spring. Stock recoil assembly and recoil. Atlas tool less guide rod on the way.
Reliable, clean, Sub 2.5LB trigger break.
Great upgrade. I feel no need to do anything more… for now…LOL.
I wouldn’t mind a medium length flat Altas trigger, eventually…

I’m not a fan of the safeties, those on my Stacatto are much cleaner, nicer ”snick”. I did clean up my Prodigy safeties a little… but still not as good.

After sending mine into SA for the jam o magic fix, I waited roughly 2500 rounds Then went EGW kit.
I’ll say the trigger action on my Prodigy is better than my Staccato, bone stock as is.
It has me thinking of putting an EGW kit in my P. But..it shoots so well… I’m not sure I want to.

You can keep the socks. :)
Tu Lam did inadvertently turn me on to an extremely cool book though. The Book of 5 Rings. I highly recommend reading it. Warning, you will need to read it about 15 times. And then read it again another 15 times. Then some of it will start to sink in.

Good book, Masashi, not sure I spelled that correctly. Great read, right up there with The Art of War.

Yes. Those two books are very closely related. I would argue The Art of War is easier to comprehend. Or should I say easier or more quickly able to apply to our own lives considering that we are not 17th century Japanese swordfighters. I think it is philosophy. The art of winning.
