Pure unadulterated junk

I had so many malfunctons from SCCY's and Taurus in my firearm classes that disrupted the course of fire that they became a hazard. You have to be lucky to get one that is dependable. If a student showed up with one I would tell them we don't allow them and loan them a SIG or Glock for the course, or a S&W if it was a revolver. Gunshops that push this junk should be ashamed of themselves, but then most sales clerks are not shooters and don't know.

If you buy a defensive pistol based on the lowest price, you have your piorites mixed up.
i agree with you...

BUT

when i was "hanging" at the mom/pop bait and gun store, i was surprised by the few that came in looking for a home defense gun, but looked like they could barely afford that days worth of food.

these were people that were in general terms, "good people" that could (and did) pass the NCIC check, as well as the local PD check.

they just did not have enough money, so for like $200 for a gun, and $20 for a box of ammo, they had peace of mind.

i could do or say anything, not my place (literally i did not own the place) and not my place to interrupt a sale.

this is in sharp contrast, to the "larger", very well stocked, stocking dealer of many brands, gun store that i'd never see any $200 guns, not even in the used gun display cases.

goes with maybe(??) location of the store to neighborhoods..???

There are lots of people who live in questionable places that need self protection. But are doing good to make rent and groceries. These are the folks who buy cheap guns. That's all they can afford. These are the people these cheaper guns are made for. No, they won't hold up to continuous, hard use. They aren't range or target guns. Most of them will spend their life in a drawer somewhere and won't see the light of day again until needed. The vast majority of them will work if the need arises and that's what counts. More than anything else, they provide piece of mind.

I knew a lady who was disabled. Disability was her only income. She lived in a very bad neighborhood. She told me she had a .38. I asked to see it and she produced a RG revolver. Now that is a total POS! Damned thing wouldn't index properly and probably wouldn't fire at all. Some acquaintance of her's had taken advantage of her ignorance and sold it to her cheap just to get rid of it. But of course, her not being a gun person, she had no idea that it wouldn't work.
I took the RG from her and traded her a well used, but still completely serviceable, S&W Model 10 I had. ;)

I never shot an SCCY but never had any trouble out of a Taurus. now i haven't put just 1000's of rounds through them either. i have shot the TX22 a lot and it beats all the other 22's i have to me. never a malfunction. My sig p322 is a POS.

Lots of people have had no trouble with their SCCY or Hi Point. I am not a gunsmith, nor do I pretend to be one and I have worked on 3 of them for 2 different friends of mine. I can't speak to the latest iterations, but the GC2 is a piece of garbage.

I got friends who like their Taurus semi autos too. Some here. And we clearly have a couple people infatuated with Hi Points and those things are pieces of crap.
I get that some folks like these low end guns. Everyone makes their own decision on quality, it is their decision to make, I can only give my best advice, which is free. Desire for quality, or tolerance for lack thereof is an elusive standard. I formed my opinions of these guns based upon personal experience as an instructor on the range.

Ya'll be safe out there.

I have no personal experience with SCCY. I knew a guy who bought one for home defense. When he got it , he ran a couple of mags through it to make sure it worked. It did just fine. Then he put it in a drawer. That's what these guns are all about.

A lot of people talk crap about Taurus. I only have one. A little PT-25 that I got because the price was just too good to pass up. It shoots great! My best friend was a true believer and owned at least a half dozen or so. I've shot them all and have no complaints. They worked as they should and shot just fine. No, it ain't a Smith or a Colt, but they are good, reliable guns.

I might have seen an SCCY once at a gun shop? I think it was blue or pink or something? I don't own any Taurus so can't comment there but I do have 3 different IWI pistols. Not expensive but all have held up very well and have been 100% reliable. The all steel Jericho 941 FS9 has had a nearly all +P diet and still looks like new. The Jericho 941 PSL never a problem and fits my hand really well. While I'm not much of a striker fire guy I have the Masada and have been shooting it so much that it is now in my carry rotation. Inexpensive yes but I would'nt call them "cheap". I own a few Rugers, Springers, Smiths and a DW Valor but still had to put in my .02 for the Israeli stuff.

I never tried to sell a SCCY firearm when I worked at LGS! Come to think of it I don't think I ever did. Told them they were junk and switched them to something else
