Hi,
It was a brisk 21° here in the upper Midwest as I made my way to the newer Fletcher Arms facility. I hadn't had enough caffeine yet today but we'll see how it goes. Wow, this white stuff is everywhere!
The range was about half full when I arrived but I was able to get my favorite lane, #7. I had brought a selection of targets for some variety. Plus, some targets I shoot better than others.
I started by pasting on a few 4" reactive targets on my silhouette, sent it out to 10 yards, and loaded up fifty rounds for my XD9. We'll have fun with the Garrison a little later.
I must say, sometimes the WWB is just crummy. I had a FTE on every other magazine. I shot this whole 100 round box. Then I shot a 50 round box of Fiocchi with no issues whatsoever. Hmmm. The Winchester flat nose .45ACP in the red box ran fine in the Garrison, no problems at all.
I tried putting a magazine or two on each circle with the XD9. As you can see, very lackluster.
Then I shot some Fiocchi on these 1/3 size targets and did a little better.
Then I tried my favorite B-8 with XD9 and Fiocchi. Six in the 10 ring with 2-X but two flyers in the 8 ring. Drat.
After 150 rounds through the XD9 it was time to practice a little with the Garrison .45. I've been really trying to concentrate on that front sight and my grip so nothing moves as I pull the trigger. At least I'm keeping them all on the paper.
It's going to take me a little more practice. I just ordered another 500 rounds of .45auto this evening.
Then I put twenty hits on this 12x18 reactive silhouette. Again, at least they were all on the paper.
I patched up this target so I could shoot some .22 at it. Look closely, you may see something missing.
Did you guess? After putting six head shots on this silhouette I was wondering why I couldn't eject the spent cases. Doh!
Thankfully the spring, rod, and screw were all in the case so I was able to reassemble it back to working order. The POA and POI on this gun are great, just don't let that hair trigger get away from you.
Then I put four magazines on center mass with the P22. This little gun is fun to shoot fast. I'm looking forward to using this one to teach my granddaughters.
Let's do one more round with the .22s. I slapped on an 8" reactive to repair the silhouette and tried to get a bead on it with the Rough Rider.
Then forty more rounds with the P22. YeeeHaaww!
OK, that's all the fun I'd planned for today. Now it's time to pack up and go down the hall to wash up. I really appreciate the D-Lead soap in this place. It's in all the restrooms and the hospitality area sink.
A week from Monday I'll be taking another one of their "cognitive skills" clinics. These are a lot of fun with lots of drills, targets, motion, mental stressors, etc. I'll have one more practice session before then, trying to accurately get my accuracy more accurate. I could swear I used to shoot better. I don't know if it's my aging eyes or if I'm just overthinking grip/stance/sight picture/trigger pull/etc. I'm going to try to relax a little and let the fundamentals happen naturally. Maybe something like "Zen and Shooting Fundamentals".
Until next time, keep your powder dry and be thankful for your blessings.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
