Hi,
Well, average for me, ya know. It's been over two weeks since I'd been to the range for a practice session. I was feeling the need. I went to the older, closer range for a quick 100 rounds of 9mm and 50 rounds of .45. There was no one on the range when I arrived so I secured my favorite lane.
I brought two of my favoritest, dirtiest pistols to practice with today. This is the third or fourth range trip without a cleaning for these two, VP9 and XD45 Mod.2 Tactical. I will clean them before I take them out again. But neither had an issue today.
As you can see, I brought 50 rounds of S&B 124 grain, 50 rounds of Blazer 124 grain, and 50 rounds of LAX Ammo 230 grain. I'll be shooting 10-shot strings for the entire session, mostly at 10 yards. I started with the XD45. Here's target #1.
OK, not a bad initial effort, only one out of the black. Here's target #2 with a yellow circle in the X ring.
Hmm, it seems to be a tighter group but there's three out of the black and it's trending low-left. Let's see if I can concentrate a little more and fix some stuff. Here's target #3.
Hey! That's not too shabby, for me anyway. Did somebody say "glam shot"? OK, why not?
Let's change it up a bit for target #4 and use the mini USPSA silhouette.
My mediocrity is astounding. I guess those that are not "in" the A box are at least dangerously close. My last 10-shot string with the XD45 will be on a reactive silhouette. But first let's have a look at the B-8 target on the bottom, after 40 rounds.
Meh, it's passable I guess. It won't win contests but maybe I could stop a threat. OK, let's send the 12x18 reactive silhouette out to 10 yards and see what damage I can do.
Drat. I rushed a few of those. But at least they are all in the 9 ring on this target. I'm kind of happy about that. That's 50 rounds of .45ACP so now it's time for the star of our show, the H&K VP9. It's lovely assistant for the first 50 rounds will be the S&B 124 grain. Here's target #1.
OK! Another passable initial effort. Is that 5 or 6 hits in the X ring? I can't tell. Either way, I'm saddened by the one flyer outside the black. Here's target #2.
Oof! Can I have the line breaks so that all 10 are in the black? No? Bleh. Let's just move on to target #3.
As I was bringing this target back in I was thinking, "All right!" But then I saw that low hit just under the paper. Drat! How did that happen? I can usually tell when I've tossed one but that one just got away without my noticing. OK Cliff, let's clean up your act. Here's target #4.
Now I called that high flyer (to myself). I was riding the reset pretty tightly and let that one go accidentally. The rest of the group is pretty tight. Let's try a mini USPSA silhouette for the last 10 rounds of S&B. Here's target #5.
Guh. Extremely average. What else can I say? Tell you what, I'm going to load up five magazines with the Blazer Brass and see if it shoots any better. OK? Ready? We'll use an 8" reactive circle for target #6. Here we go.
Hmmm, three low flyers out of a pretty tight group. Let's patch up this target and send it back out. Here's target #7.
I had stuck some extra red dots on the bullseye to make it a little easier to see. I guess the first time I hit it all the other red dots got knocked off. It's kind of a messy target but you can see three hits outside of the 4" reactive circle. I think I can do better. I'm going to patch it up again. Have a look at target #8.
OK, that's a little better with only one hit outside the 4" reactive circle. I that good enough for a glam shot?
I'm going to show you my last two targets in the next post. I had something special planned for this session and it turned out pretty good, for me anyway. I'll be right back. Thanks for looking!
Thank you for your indulgence,
