Hey gang!
It was a beautiful Spring day here in the Wild Wild Upper Midwest, over 70° this afternoon. Yes, we're still waiting for everything to sprout, bloom, and grow.
I had a little gig this evening so I decided to make a quick run to the closer range beforehand to try out my latest acquisition. Believe it or not, I got my favorite lane!
This is my brand new SA Ronin 9mm, 5", fiber optic front, adjustable rear, match barrel, etc. Dang but this is a pretty gun.
I had ordered four Mec-Gar 10 round magazines for it and they worked flawlessly. Plus, they look great when in the grip, no big extended overhang or anything. The stock magazine holds nine rounds. I had brought only 100 rounds of Blazer Brass and wish I'd brought more. I was having so much fun! The one thing I noticed between the factory mag and the Mec-Gar units was the feed lips. (Factory mag on the left.)
They both worked excellently with one exception. You know I like shooting 10-shot strings. When dropping the factory mag to put one in the chamber, it would leave one in the chamber but then also drop a cartridge when dropping the mag. Weird. So I'd just put that one back in the mag along with another cartridge so that I'd have 10 shots ready. Then I sent the first B-8 out to 10 yards.
I figured this would be a bit of a process, and it was. This was the first string right out of the box.
Yeah, a little high. But wow! I really like the trigger on this pistol and the recoil is more like that of a .22. I know I should've used 3-shot strings but it's so much fun to shoot! Besides, I figured a 10-shot string would give me a better idea of the groups I was shooting, minus my usual flyers. I gave the rear sight a couple of clicks so target #2 came back like this.
OK, better. A couple more clicks and here's target #3.
Yep, one flyer away from the main group. I'll give it a couple more clicks. Here's target #4.
OK, that was a little more spread out but I'm getting closer to dialing it in. A couple more clicks and here's target #5.
Dang but this gun is fun to shoot! I'm getting closer. Let's try a one more click. Here's target #6.
OK, not a big difference there. How about one more click? Here's target #7.
As usual, a couple of flyers away from the main group. But this is looking pretty good. I think the variance is all me and not the pistol or sights. Let's put up my favorite target out at 10 yards and try really hard.
How about that! I think that deserves a glam shot.
I'm going to patch this with a 4" reactive circle ('cause the group was so small!) and try again just to be sure it wasn't a fluke.
Another pretty good 10-shot string with just one flyer on the edge of the 4" reactive circle. Drat. Well, I'm feeling pretty brave anyway so I'm going to patch this up with an 8" reactive circle and add one of my yellow circles to give these old eyes something to focus on.
Now I'm actually going to send this out to 15 yards for the last 10-shot string.
After some careful consideration, the target came back like this.
OK, not bad for this old noob. I got a few hits right on my "Coop" sticker and all of them inside a 6" circle. I am really lovin' this Ronin. I was having so much fun! Unfortunately I had brought only 100 rounds of my 124 grain Blazer Brass and I didn't want to pay range prices for another box. So I packed it in and said goodbye.
I still might want to give the rear sight elevation one more click. Either that or adjust my hold. It seems to be hitting and inch or so above where I'm aiming, at 10 yards. I'll take my time and wring it out a little more the next time we're at the range. I know I used too much ammo to get these sights dialed in. But this Ronin is fun to shoot! Maybe I'll take it on my next training class. That would be a hoot! Hey guys, thanks for putting up with me. Blessings to all.
Thank you for your indulgence,
