Red dot pistol optics MOA size

Yep. I’m going to at least get some hands on first. There’s several shops around me that carry an assortment of them.
Try and test a red and green dot if you can. One red dot that I really like is the Leupold Deltapoint Pro. It is a red dot at 2.5 moa. I have a couple of them. The dot is perhaps the crispest one you will find and the glass of the optic is extremely clear. The DPP is the optic the Army spec’d for the M17. The body is a bit larger than most but the optic is rock solid. And you can find some decent prices on them right now.

Indeed. Comparably priced to Holosun.

Hi,

My first optic is a 2 MOA green dot in a 32 MOA circle. This mode works for me.

I wear bifocals too but don't need any corrective lenses to see this optic, Holosun HE507C-GR X2.

Sure, it might not be the best dot, but for my first foray into optics pistols (XD9 Mod.3) it's getting the job done for now. It's easy to see and easy to pick up from the draw. I've had cataract surgery on my right eye, and I'm right eye dominant.

I have a Hex Wasp micro red dot (3.5 MOA), free from the "gear-up" promotion, ready to install on my Echelon 4.5F Comp but I haven't taken the time yet. I want to "shoot the new" off of it first, before I start tinkering with it. Besides, I agree with all these learned fellows when they say green is easier to see. I'm looking forward to your adventure.

Thank you for your indulgence,

This is what I use also, with cataract surgery in both eyes and a lifelong astigmatism. I was using this type before I had the cataract surgery, but my sight was really bad then. The benefit is that you can use just the dot, just the circle, or both. This is the only type of optic I have on my guns (multi reticle system).

I know there are more quality optics than Holosun, but I really like the solar charging on a few of the Holosun optics models as well. I haven’t worried about batteries (in gun optics) for years.

I wear bifocals when I shoot. The front iron sight is a touch blurry and my glasses make it crystal clear. With a dot I don't have that need and either size seems to work. However, I personally prefer the smaller dot. I just feel that when qualifying at ranges over 20 yards the smaller dot allows me finer point of aim/point of impact results under timed pressure.

As a side note. I can personally attest to dots truly extending my range with small pistols. Using the dot on my G26 I can easily hit an 8" gong at 50 yards. I can do this with irons, but it is truly easier with the dot. For me.

Hey y’all,
Now that I have an Echelon 4.5F on the way I’ve been thinking about adding a Red Dot to it.
I’ve never used one for a pistol but I’ve use Reflex sights on a M4 ( ACOG and M68 ).
I’m much older now and I have had multiple surgeries on both eyes (cataracts and detached retinas).
My vision is almost 20/20. I do wear prescription Bi-focals.
Which size MOA should I get? 3 or 6?
Thanks for the suggestions

Don't you get a free one through the mail from SA with the Echelon?

Hi,

Don't you get a free one through the mail from SA with the Echelon?

Just for reference ( @Warrior9(Ret) ), I got my choice of a free Hex Wasp or Crimson Trace. Both are budget-minded optics and will get you started. The "gear-up" promotion runs through the end of April. But I'm not discouraging you from spending more $$$ for a top notch optic. ;)

I got the choice of the two as well. I chose the Hex Wasp also.

Hi,

Have you installed yours yet? I'm going to wait a bit until I master this U-notch sight setup. It's still new to me. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

Not yet I just bought mine on the 7th and immediately filed for the free stuff.

They say it takes about 30 days so I'm waiting on my sight, mags, and case.

As soon as I get mine and install it I will let you know.

For me, the SRO 5MOA red dot is perfect. Crisp and well defined when viewed through my astigmatism.
I also have the Vortex Defender XL 5MOA red dot, it is not as crisp for my vision capabilities.
At 50 yards I do not think I would be able to pick out a 2.5" area of a B27 target let alone put consistant hits on that 2.5" spot. At 10 to 15 yards it is a different story. 3" shoot n see targets, 10 yards at a fairly rapid fire.

That is pretty fabulous right there. :)
