Red Dot vs. Iron Sights for Concealed Carry

I was using red dots on competition pistols almost 30 years ago, but didn’t get me on a carry gun until three years ago. That was due to necessity.
Once again, I can see the sight.

Carry gun I prefer iron sights. Range/competition guns must have a dot.

I shoot a dot more accurately at speed due to aging eyes. But for a self defense gun at close range sights to me aren’t as important, not planning on precise 25 yard shots.

The red dot takes my reading glasses out the equation. I bought one of the first Glock 19 slides that Suarez made back in the day cut for a Trijicon RMR. It knocked the 1911 off my hip where it had ridden for decades. Later, I cut the 19 frame down to Glock 26 dimensions since with an inside the waistband holster the butt is the hard part to hide. Here is my carry gun vs a stock Glock 19. But I have to admit, the smaller Hellcat has my attention!

Been carrying for well over 50 years, without a red dot. I do have one, but instinct is hard to overcome, so I stick with iron sights. Nothing against the red dot, fine for range time, but when time is critical, original sights work best for me.

I’m in the same boat with the reading glasses. Thats why I always run a red dot. I don’t want to rely on the bad guy giving me a sec to put my readers on.
