Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “Republic P-47 Thunderbolt — America’s Flying Tank” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/republic-p-47-thunderbolt/.
I thought the P47 was still used in Vietnam...maybe I'm just remembering it in a movie...
Yep...you are correct. Saw it in a bad movie, either Rescue Dawn or Flight of the Intruder....can't remember which movie...think it was Flight...great book though. You're thinking of the Douglas masterpiece, the A1 Skyraider..........
Now she was a Queen of Battle.
My dad jumped out of his0but we sold ourselves short sticking with P/F51 post war.
I love that plane. Like the F8F Bearcat it came at a time when the jet engines were taking over. They were the pinnacles of the prop-driven aircraft. You're thinking of the Douglas masterpiece, the A1 Skyraider..........

I think you are remembering an A1E Skyraider, the Spad. Look similar to the Jug. But I could be wrong. Maybe the French had them and some RVN pilots flew them when the US started in that theater.I thought the P47 was still used in Vietnam...maybe I'm just remembering it in a movie...
My Dad was infantry in WW2 and he said they loved when the P47 was supporting them.A paradox of a plane. The large plane looked cumbersome and lumbering. I bet it came as quite a surprised to the Germans to find out it was neither. From what I read, this plane was loved by everyone who flew it.
