Retiring a Gun to the Safe

FedEx 2nd day air bumped into mother nature in Memphis. Instead of arriving at the Taurus facility in Bainbridge GA today the Millennium pistol is still sitting in Memphis, TN. :)

I will eventually use the G2c as my nightstand pistol but for now I've another of my old faithfuls, a Firestar M45. It is a shame Star went out of business because this gun is built like a tank and doesn't care what type of ammo you feed it.

Well it's been six days since the Millennium entered the FedEx system as 2nd day air. It is still sitting in Memphis. I know it was weather delayed but come on, it's been in Memphis since early Saturday morning. I'm not impressed.

I had decided to retire my 9mm Taurus PT-111 Millennium as my nightstand pistol and replace it with a similar size pistol. My plan was to wait until the crazy prices of guns and ammo was over but that didn’t happen. I was at my local sporting goods store yesterday looking for ammo and I noticed they had a Taurus G2c in their gun case with a price of $249.00 so I bought it. Magazine capacity is 12 rounds. It also has an adjustable rear sight that adjusts for both windage and elevation. I’ll be taking it to the local gun range later today to see how it performs.
I know a lot of people pooh pooh Taurus but my PT-111 and my Taurus M44 have been dependable and accurate. I’ve owned both guns for 20 years.

Here's a picture of the old and the new.

My first center fire pistol was the Taurus PT-99 which I still have and it is one of the best shooters I own. I also have the PT-1911 and a PT-709 slim and all have been solid. I am a fan, nice pistol!

Well, it's been two months since the PT-111 Millennium arrived at the factory and I still don't have the replacement pistol. I called Customer Service today and they told me the are still waiting for the factory to send the replacement to them so they can ship it to my FFL dealer. Although I like Taurus guns, their customer service sucks.

I've had my G2C for about a year or a little over a year. I've bought a few 15 round mags for it, and changed the sights to fiber optic, dropped an Asmund short stroke trigger into it which made the long trigger pull of the stock trigger much nicer and much more even. I've had zero FTF or FTE malfunctions in that time. I probably have somewhere around 500-600 rounds thru it using FMJs and JHPs. I've had a few issues with the G3C but the G2C has performed flawlessly. That's the same price I paid for mine. I did put some Talon grips on it, but I put those on all my handguns pretty much standard.

Man, that's not good...

Welcome to new and improved daylight savings plan? - Guess we didn't get the memo? Maybe US's version of "Slow boat to China?"

No, am not impressed either with some online tracking systems leaving lot to be desired too many times. Shipping co's may be competing to see who does the longest delay? On the other hand have some that are stellar!

Very nice !!!

Here's a little backstory about receiving this pistol.

When my local gun store called me and told me my replacement pistol from Taurus was in I was surprised because I didn’t receive an email from Taurus notifying me it had shipped. After thinking about it I decided to check an email I received 4 days earlier that I was convinced was spam and possibly contained a virus so I didn’t open it.

Was that the email from Taurus? The email was from “Do Not Reply Email Server” and the subject was “Electronic Document**Invoice #02-SLSRP” followed by a bunch of numbers. Throwing caution to the wind I opened the email and this was the first couple of lines;

Dear Customer

We're happy to let you know that the items on the attached PDF are on their way to you. We also included the shipping method and tracking information on this document.

Thanks for your time and for shopping with us.

I need to open a PDF file? Hmmmm, surely this must be a virus. Those first few lines were followed by a huge amount of text that was poorly formatted about the email being confidential and quoted a number of federal regulations, and even had an EAR WARNING and kept referring to the item or items contained herein. It read like a bunch of goobly ****. At the very bottom of the text I saw;

Taurus Holdings, Inc. does not provide legal advice; you should

consult

your own legal counsel regarding these issues.

Taurus?? OK, I checked to make sure my virus software was running in the background and opened the PDF file. Voila, it was the invoice for the G2c they sent me. It would have been very helpful if they would have put Taurus or even G2c in the subject line.

Possibly their security too? Certain brand names ring different bells for various reasons? A header name may have been good or not? Am reaching though. Many people typically get all sorts of email from various firearm mfg's labeled as such. Likely more than not, just an oversight on their part or from someone doing same repitious thing daily and / or taking for granted everyone else's a mind reader?

Despite their poor communication and the fact that it took 4 months to receive a replacement pistol I guess I should be thrilled with Taurus. They did stand behind their lifetime warranty and I sent them a 20 year old pistol and got a brand new one in return at no cost to me. I like the fact that they still put a thumb safety on the G2c.
