Ruger GP 100 2.5"

Old_Me

SAINT
as in the title, took, that gun to the range this morning, and 50 rds of .357 factory ammo, and 50 rds .38 special reloads.

this will be the gun that i have on order that leather holster.

i needed to practice since it'll be another carry gun, from time to time, and leave the Hellcat home.

well, dang, if i don't have a blister on the webbing between my thumb and pointy (trigger) finger.

it don't hurt, in fact, i never knew i had it, until i went to clean up my port.

i did "ok" with both the 357 and 38's, but i know i can do better, afterall, i have posted a few targets after hitting them with any of my 1911's.

i might have to apply a band-aid the next time i take it for practice, or is it better to not, and let that part of the hand "toughen up"..????

the grip has an "indentation" for the thumb to rest, as far as i know, i had it there.

here is a website picture of the grip, and indentation

the other side, does not have that...

i have never come across this (getting that blister) with any of my other revolvers......

The only time I had something similar was with a rubber grip and my 4.5 inch custom 44 magnum Redhawk with very heavy loads. I found that the rubber did not work well for me, it grabbed my web between the thumb and forefinger and actually tore it. I swapped out to a smooth ivory grip and had no issues for close to 30 years. I belive the ivory actually let the grip rotate very slightly in my hand instead of grab and tear.

Since then I have replaced every rubber grip on a revolver, almost. I like the one on my .380 Taurus. I had the ruger Sp101 and ended up selling it because the stock grip was too square and felt awkward and I could not find a replacement I liked. Btw, it's the same grip style as on the GP100 so maybe being too square is an issue.

Maybe you should lend it to me so I can try to see if it does it to me…..😬
Seriously, the only gun I have had issues like this is my S&W 625JM, it has the grooved trigger and after so many rounds, my trigger finger is almost raw,

Looks like it is the 7 shot cylinder?
What I like about the Ruger 2 1/2” is they have an actual functioning full length ejector rod more times than not!
yes, 7 rd cylinder.

it's really a super gun, for a short barrel. most of my revolvers are 6" and 1 is a 5(?) inch.

love them all. the reason for me wanting to carry this revolver is it's power of the 357 magnum.

we are being cut to 10 rd mags in my state (its on the US Supreme court file now) to get us grandfather rights of what we own now)..

so, if i'm gonna be cut back to a mere 10 rds? i'll carry a more powerful round over the 9mm.

yeah, i did some searching, if i shoot 38 specials and i have in the past, there were no issues. so i too am of the thinking the more powerful magnum loads put more "stress" on the web of my hand.

it was practice day with it, in a "god forbid" real self defensive shooting, hopefully the situation will end before i run out of ammo. today was "over kill" of practicing.

i might still want to switch out to a different set of grips.

Interesting, I have two GP100's and a GP101 in .357 and have never had this issue myself. They all have the grip that you show. Maybe a bandaid would do the trick.
i think the reason why my webbing got rubbed raw, is that i very rarely shoot more than say about 25 rds out of any of my revolvers.

especially in 357 magnums. i very rarely dump a whole box of any revolver ammo at the range.

i am actually trying to stay away from such loads, (357 mags) in favor of 38 specials. but for the "sake of" getting time/practice in for a carry gun, and chambered in the more powerful 357 mag, i know i over did the practice time with a full box of magnums.

my only best "opinion", as i have no stats or proof, of what i am about to say, if i "had" to defend myself some day, my "hope" is that at least 1 round, maybe 2, will put down the thug, with a magnum round(s).

so practicing with our ccw guns is important, every so often.

it's funny really now, the rubbed raw webbing did not bother me, the first day or 2......

now, it's been an SOB and killing me....lol...lol.....

by the way, all my other revolvers grips (or stocks), do not have the same thumb indentation, as the Ruger does.

That is really nice. I miss my old GP100. These Rugers are so well built. Feel so much more solid than even a S&W. I’d imagine the blister is from the .357 loads making the gun jump up and down in your hand…maybe examine your grip? Just a thought. Shoot safe.

yeah, i think so too. i just do not shoot any of my revolvers as much as say my 1911's.

i over did it that day with practicing.

if i carry that Ruger, and have to use it, my "best hope", is that in 4 shots or less, i'll have someone on the ground.

i was actually talking with an RSO this morning, he was carrying a S&W. we agree, that if our state limits our mag capacities to 10 rds, , then just go up a caliber.

Dayum! Very Nice! Thats the exact model I've been drooling over for about a year. Just a beautiful piece, and the extra round is a big bonus. Congrats.

Oh and that recessed area on the left side of grip is a relief area to aid in reloading, like with a HKS Speed Loader but you can use it as a thumb shelf (I do also).

Again, very Nice revolver.

thing is, i really, really wanted the 6" barrel, but the LGS had none at the time. all they had was that 2.5", so i said to the salesman, "screw it, it's mine"

really was indeed a very good choice. i had a Taurus 856 UL, in 38 special only.

that dang thing, just shooting ordinary 38's, would cause "vibration" and for me, some pain each round fired!

i sold it off like maybe after the 3rd time at the range with it. i had to be "fair" and make sure it just wasn't any weakness in my hand.

this Ruger, man, i can shoot 357's and yes, there is "some" very minute vibrations, but NO pain at all.

of course, it's a heavier metal gun, over the aluminum(??) framed Taurus.

which, that Taurus? really would make for a great carry gun for some people, just not me.

I have the 6" model in SS. It's awesome.
