That is a 638…not technically a hammerless, originally known as the “Bodyguard” (which is now the moniker for a cheaper .38 or their pocket .380’s); it has a shrouded hammer that can still be cocked for single action shots. Lots if people consider it the best of both worlds.
I had one (actually, the heavyweight all-stainless 649 version); I liked it, I liked being able to spin the cylinder by partially cocking to check for high primers…but, the Centennial (hammerless; 640, 3/4/642) models fit my hand and point naturally for me.
I’d still get it for $550.

When I looked closer at the picture I thought it might be. I've only ever seen these things in glass cases or on the internet, never handled one.

638 tend to go for a bit more than the 642 or the 637. Because humpbacks are just cooler 
. Paid $500 with tax for mine 4 years ago. It was a bit much but finding a 638 in this area is like finding hens teeth. True gun value put 638 used at $365. Looking around the interweb I see new for around $500. The C.T. laser grip sells for $199 but is currently unavailable from C.T. JMHO not a smoking deal but not half bad. Be forewarned, if you buy it, you'll start shooting it, and then carrying it, because it's just so damn easy and before you know it, you'll be looking plaid sportscoats and penny loafers.

Eh…don’t shoot as well for me as a Centennial. The humpback on the Bodyguard doesn’t allow for as high of a grip, I found, and it doesn’t point as well, or control recoil.That's because it is.

The ring on the cylinder and light peening indicates it's been fired or dry fired a lot. Not saying it doesn't have a tight lock up.

If you zoom in on the one in the photo you can see that the "drag line" continues through the little concave indentions that stop the cylinder at each chamber. If whatever is making the drag line is static, which I think it has to be, the line would be broken over those indentions.
