S&W’s Registered Magnum

The original Magnum, first of its name…

If you didn’t know, S&W first introduced the .357 Magnum in 1935; only available in the N-frame (and lives on today in the -27 and -28 models), it was THE top dog of the time (and was used to take Grizzly in its development…).

And I might be buying one. Negotiations are in process…

A 3.5" 27 has been on my bucket list for decades--it's just one of the most badass-looking revolvers ever made. Back in the '80s I got the chance to buy a 3.5" barrel for a good price, so I jumped on it. Shortly thereafter I made a great deal on a 4" 28. The idea was to put the 3.5" barrel on the 28, but the 28's barrel simply refused to budge. Ah shucks oh well, I still have both. And I've gotten used to the 4" 28.

I’ve got a 27-2 (I think? Maybe 27-1) 3.5” that’s just perfect. I wish S&W would bring back that barrel length.

The RM is a 5”.

Good Luck !!
Hope it works out for you..

I have one of those but according to the Letter I got from S&W, it was shipped after S&W stopped registering them. S&W said the reason they stopped the registered program was cost. It is a fine example of the gunmaker's art. At one point I carried a 5" Model 27 for duty. The N frame magnums of the day were superbly accurate and closed up like a bank vault. Post gun porn if you get the Registered.

The top is my "unregistered" magnum shipped from the factory in 1955. I inherited this revolver. Sent it ba k to S&W in the 70's for reblue and sight insert.

Bottom is 5" model 27 that I carried as a patrolman.

Someday I will post all my duty guns. There were 14 of them

I'll never be able to afford a registered magnum, so I'm glad I got a model 27 back in the 70's.
Paid $315.00 and it would take many Benjamin's for me to part with it.View attachment 31542
Question. I inherited a box filled with old gun cleaning supplies. Some nice old 1 piece shotgun rods, bunch of cleaners and lubes, all in antiquey looking packaging. Also was a little silver screwdriver exactly like the one in that box. What exactly is it for?
