SA 35 in 45 and 10 mm

We all share our collective love for the BHP, but there's only so much that the classic BHP design can accommodate.

As explained above it would require a look-a-like new design to use the.45 & 10mm, and the increased magazine capacity you want.

Wishful thinking is nice but reality would require a new larger pistol.

I would be completely happy with a look a like!!!! You might have just solved the problem. Simply scale the HiPower up and call it Big Brother. I have a Browning 1911 in 22 caliber for my son and it’s a scaled down version, why not simply scale it up ?

It’s a completely new gun…

Again, feel the difference between a G17 and a G20/21, or a USP9 & USP45, a P30 and a HK45…or, as I mentioned, the difference between a CZ75 and a CZ97–probably the closest to the BHP grip in size & design.

The simple fact is, the platform for running these calibers exists, it’s proven, and arguably superior.

Because if you scale it up, it won't be a P.35 anymore. It would be something else.

A .40 S&W (or maybe with some minor rework, the .45GAP) is the biggest cartridge you can run in the original P.35 structure. End of story.

I think the HiPower is a great service pistol that has served well. I personally think it is ergonomically ungainly as a concealed carry pistol and swelling it up to .45 or 10mm would make it more so.

I like the capacity of a double stack for military and police work but don't feel the need for that in retirement. I hung my P226 up but have lots of spare mags for it just in case.

I am instead an adherent to fewer, big, fat bullets. To me that means P220 or 1911. If an all metal .45 or 10mm SAO carry pistol is a want, have a look at the SIG P220 SAO Legion or SA 1911. But they are heavy.
 
For a purest the Hi-power is the 9mm as it is.

To make a Hi-power in 10mm or .45 cal the pistol will have to change so much, it accommodate the thicker and more powerful bullets that it may not be what buyers want❓
 
With some of the issues making a BHP in 40 a 45 or 10mm would really be pushing the envelope to the point it WOULD NOT feel like the same gun.

Look no farther than a CZ 75 vs a 45 acp caliber CZ 97.

I’d really be surprised if Springfield puts the $$ into it. Now if they’d bring back their P 9 CZ clone would be more financially viable for them
 
I dearly love both the 1911 and the Hi-Power and have several of each.
I'd love to see a Hi-Power in .45. But it ain't gonna happen.
When Browning chambered the Hi-Power for .40 S&W they had to beef up the slide and add an extra locking lug. It still didn't work out very well. The gun was designed to be a 9mm. Anything else is just wishful thinking.
I suppose you could biggie size it for the .45acp, but then it wouldn't be a Hi-Power any more. And why bother? The 1911 is still going strong. I don't see much market for it.
Personally, I've always wished for a Hi-Power in 38 Super. But the longer cartridge just won't fit in the Hi-Power frame. Again, just wishful thinking. :rolleyes:
