SA XD Tactical .45

Has anyone experienced competitive shooting with the SA XD Tactical .45 5in. pistol? I am wanting to start competitive shooting with the XD Tactical .45 and with its affordable prices tag I’m hoping this is a good start and pistol… Thoughts ?

I only use mine for home defense but like it.

I use an XDm 9mm 5.25 for my competitive shooting since the ammo is cheaper.

Thank you… I’ve read good reviews on the XD Tactical .45 where the reviewer stated the XD is often overlook for the Glock or SW 5in models. I own a couple of Springfields and have been impressed on the reliability and accuracy of the non “Tactical” models.

However I own a XDM in 40s&w and 10mm of the precision variety (5.25") and a g41 (5,31" 45acp) and all 3 are good guns. I do like the ss mags better than the poly glock mags!

XDm 9mm 5.25's are a very nice choice, too bad they're discontinued. Make great target and defense pistols.
On the brighter side for range use, the XDm Elite 22 round mags work too.

Unfortunately, living in California our options are limited to 10+1 and most XD pistols - XDm .45 and XDm’s not on CA list… Your thoughts on the XD .45 Tactical as a competition pistol? Also, do the XDm .45 mags fit the XD .45 ?

CA can provide many things. But, am not fresh up on all their requirements. Can only relate to the SA 5.25 XDm as a platform or model in 9mm, is great in setup for some people. Good sights out of the box, functions well for average person from what all have experienced and heard.

As far as the rest concerning .45ACP, best bet is to contact SA's Customer Service for advice which they usually and happily provide or perhaps another member who has exact caliber XDm 5.25 may chime in? My thoughts on a .45ACP version for a start in competitive shooting? The reviews on functions have read are favorable. I'd go for it if in the market for another XDm, should be a great start.

CA's requirements on XDm's? Very little clue on this end and they change from year to year from what have heard. Best advise is to know what can about CA's laws before jumping in.

Here's a run down of and by SA's info if you haven't read and gone through it for the Low Cap. XDm 5.25 .45ACP already:

Here's the list of available .45ACP mags available from SA:

Thank you so much, appreciate the comments and reply. CA is a head-scratcher when it comes to firearm reg’s

I figured you were from CA. IMO, SA only keeps the older XD45s with 10 rd mags for the CA & other ban states markets that require the state approval of the models.

Some have said that its very expensive to go through the approval process so SA likely says it's one & done.

According to the SA store the mags are cross compatible.

XD® / XD MOD.2® / XD-M® 10-ROUND MAGAZINE - .45 ACP

XD® / XD MOD.2® / XD-M® 13-ROUND MAGAZINE - .45 ACP

I've compared my 5.25 Competition to a new Elite 5.25 & the only differences is the ambi slide release & trigger. Otherwise they look identical.

The ambi slide release would be nice but the right side one is pretty small, and my Competition trigger (factory) is better than the new Elite. Maybe it's just differences betwen guns?

Because of the similarites I figured i wasn't worth getting the newer Elite. Ans, as you say the mags are cross compatible.

My .02

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Elite has flared magwell too, but is sort of a give or take option in some ways.
9mm reasoning? Like you basically stated earlier about 9mm ammo being more widely available, it has held true in most cases and was my thoughts at the time of purchase too even though prefer .45ACP for most part except capacity differences in XDm's. Lot more shots available w/9mm than .45ACP.

The flared magwell is a removeable item for optional use, as you say. Based on that I considered it a novelty item. I haven't seen any difference in the frame itself betwen the two, so IMO the Elite is a slightly improved Competition model.
