Saint 300 Blackout ATF Pistol Brace

cmac

Alpha
Hey there. New to forum and didn’t see this anywhere. The new ATF Pistol brace rules. Does it classify a saint 300 BO with no mods as a SBR? I’ve used the checklist and don’t come up with the points to say but I, like the feds, are subjective in our own interests. Anyone come up with something concrete or should I just go SBR?
Thanks

This will be taken to court, I don’t think that the Anti’s really want a ruling from SCOTUS As shown from this past session. It seems like the court does not like non elected bureaucratic agencies just arbitrarily making new “laws”. They seem to prefer that elected officials actually make rules the right way.

I’m this session they smacked down the epa for creating rules out of thin air instead of Congress enacting or updating laws. That gives me great hope for the brace ban getting knocked down.

@cmac that’s the whole problem with the proposed ban, they leave themselves wiggle room to 🤬 legal gun owners. It’s nearly impossible to figure out if you’re a felon or not. As mentioned by others, ATF is going to get sued hard and hopefully whoever does it will pick a jurisdiction that is pro-constitution and gets an immediate injunction.

My understanding this new rule begins on 1 AUG 22. That would make it unlikely to get through the courts prior. Seems like best course of action is to just go ahead and do a Form 1 and SBR it. The issue is, they’ll just go after SBRs next.

And they have a list of every single SBR in the country. Which is the main reason why I have been vehemently opposed to the whole Tax Stamp, Form 1 stuff from the beginning.

I have a .300 BLK pistol. I’m waiting before I do anything. This pistol brace thing is not written in stone yet. My guess is that IF it gets implemented in August, at least one lawsuit will get filed and an injunction will be placed on the rule until it a final decision is made. It’s possible it will sit in limbo for years until the final outcome is determined.

The other problem with this proposal is that it is so convoluted, it’s almost impossible to figure out if you have a pistol or an SBR. And there’s language in it that basically says even if you pass the points system, the ATF can determine you have an SBR anyway at their discretion.

I can’t see this going through the way it’s written. Like I said, I’m waiting until it gets settled…

I hope so. I’m going through the checklist right now and don’t even get past the brace before subjectivity

Im hopeful of that. I’m on “the list” already with a couple silencers so adding another isn’t a concern. Yep the questions start out confusing and when you get all the way through they say if we think it’s an SBR it’s a SBR. Pointless. Hoping Firearms Policy/GOA/NRA can run crazy w/ WV v. EPA decision.

We’re all on a list of some sort, I’m not so worried about that. You run into a whole different set of rules with an SBR than with a pistol. The biggest one is crossing state lines. You basically need permission from the ATF if you want to take your SBR to another state. There’s more, but suffice it to say, you have to be way more cognizant of what you’re doing and where you’re going with an SBR than with a pistol.

It's not about your name merely being on a list. It's about the ATF and the government having a database of specific firearms and who owns them. We have been fighting this a long time and holding the government at bay with regards to a national gun registry. So you should be worrying about it.

Thoughts on firing 300 BO subsonic with a 16” barrell suppressed (Silencerco Omega 300)? I have some long arms at 6’4” so it might actually be better. And I’m not dealing with the ridiculous crap anymore.
I preferred the M16 v the M4 during my Army days but Apache only had M4 mounts in cockpit.

What thoughts are you looking for in regards to shooting a 16in barreled .300blk with subsonic ammo?

It should work without issues and the only thing to consider is that if the subsonic ammo your using is pushing the limit of being subsonic that the added barrel length may take the round over the supersonic threshold as the velocity increases per inch of added barrel length.

Shooting .300blk subsonic suppressed is one of the most gratifying rounds to shoot at solid targets such a fruit, water jugs, or even steel.

I agree. I have a great home range setup and do just that. Just trying to come up with every option I possibly can and definitely willing to learn from those who know better. TM.

The overall length of a .30cal suppressor and 16in barrel will put you in the 22in to 24in for overall barrel length and an overall carbine rough length of 38in to 40in. I wouldn't call this set-up ideal for home defense unless you're perched up somewhere defending against a threat.

A great range set-up to that will get you the best amount of sound suppression from using .300blk and a suppressor would be a bolt action type rifle such as the Ruger American in .300blk. The Ruger American in .300blk has a heavy barrel, threaded muzzle and you find some nice aftermarket stocks for it.

I was just watching a Classic Firearms video and saw the Ruger. Takes AR mags!!!
I have a Bergara B14 HMR in .308 that’s awesome suppressed and an awesome longer range shooter. Traded a .223 and some cheddar for it and love it. Have a 22LR Tika suppressed that’s fun with the army of rabbits here on the property. Great recommendation 10mm!
Home defense is covered w/ or w/o the Springfield 300.
Thanks!
