Saint victor 556 rifle

I have looked into replacing the handguard on the Saint Victor for a BCM Quad Rail but wondering if I have to replace the barrel nut since the barrel nut has screw holes all around it so theoretically I don't have to replace it.

The muzzle is not permanent but taking it off was a giant pain in the balls. For me and the gunsmith who managed to finally get it off.
Unless you have a vise, reaction rod & armours wrench taking off and putting on muzzle devices can be tough.

This is part of the reason people are looking for an alternative and easier way without having to remove everything.

So far, you can remove the muzzle brake but there aren't many choices to a new brake that extends past the handguard. There's a company that makes some of the Dead Air brakes that's working on making a longer one but they're still in the test stages.

Handguards are typically easy to remove with basic hand tools and if you are removing or installing any muzzle device or barrel nut it's not recommended without using a reaction rod or barrel vise otherwise you can cause irreparable damage to the upper receiver by way of the barrel timing pin spinning into the softer aluminum receiver potentially cracking the upper or deforming the timing slot which will cause failure to feed issues from the barrel feed ramps being out of alignment.

If you replace your handguard you may want to match the coating of your rifle for aesthetic purposes as there are few different common types of coatings on AR receivers and associated parts.

I know this is an older thread, but JMac Customs just released a barrel extension made specifically for the Saint Victor pistol. This took about a year of several versions, from a muzzle brake with a longer neck to eventually this. They only made a few of them and so far they've sold well.

And FYI, JMac Customs is a contractor for Dead Air Silencers. They are one of the shops Dead Air uses to make their accessories like muzzle braks and flash hiders, so this extension is definitely made well.
