Shipping an M1A

Check with your local gun stores. When I've bought used guns, the LGS always seems to have a box available in the back to fit it. Frequently, new gun buyers (say for example a M1A purchaser), may forgo the box the case came with, and just carry it out in the case. I did just that on my last two M1A purchases. Good luck.

I have a soft case I was going to use. You think I need a hard case.
I thought about making my own box but shouldn’t there be used rifle box’s at sporting goods and gun stores? How do manufacturers ship their rifles? When Springfield Armory ships the rifle back to me what are they going to use for a box, my home made box?

Thank you. Great idea. Is a soft case good enough to put in the box or do I need a hard case? I’m sure I could make my own box but I’m also sure it would look like I made my own box. I can see the guys at Springfield saying, “check this out. This looks like the dude made his first box”. Now they have to get past a combination of hot glue, staples and duck tape to get to my blown apart M1A. I don’t think that’s how I want them to remember my name. Hey, I know I am as green they get but I’m trying to hid that fact, ok. Lol

They do make boxes sized for shipping rifles; as for getting one from a sporting goods store? They may have one.

I‘d just wrap the rifle in bubble wrap (you can buy that at Home Depot, Staples, etc.), place in box and ship via FedEx, UPS, etc. I don’t think anyone at SA cares how it arrives as long as it unloaded & packaged safely as to not get damaged from the shipping.

Keep in mind the packaging including the box will be discarded when it arrives at Springfield and your gun will be returned in a box designed to
support/hold your gun.

Thanks for all the help.
As a follow up, I shipped it, they fixed it and I have it back good as new. Best service I’ve ever received from any company in my life and I’m 67 years old. No charge, no invoice, not even for shipping! My only hassle was a stupid box and that was on me having never shipped a rifle. I’m serious, I couldn’t be happier with the folks at Springfield Armory. What a great company!
