Shooting and Long Fingernails

I don't tolerate my nails having the white edge. Ever. In other words they get cut or ripped off as soon as there's something there to get a knife or clippers under. If there is room under my nails there would be dirt under there and that's disgusting.

So this is not something I would ever have to be concerned about.

Hi,

Yes, I keep a pair of nail clippers in my back pack because my nails get in the way when they're too long. As a musician or with my pistols I find short trimmed nails work best. Gloves might change that situation.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I know a guitar player who keeps very long nails on his right hand in order to play his style...think of Mark Knopfler... Keeps his left hand (frets) short for obvious reasons. Yes he looks funny (for more reasons than his nails, but I won't go there) but you'd never guess how many women throw themselves at him after a good show, regardless of those long nails...

Yes, I know several guitar players with long nails on their right hand, or their picking hand. They play the "claw" style. Some even get acrylic nails. My guitar player always had a bottle of super glue with him in case a nail popped off.

I'm the bass player. I don'need no stinkin' nails. ;)

I am also a bass player, but I do play a fair amount of guitar. First off, nails are an anathema to a bass player. When there are songs that need the tone of a pick, I use a pick. Other than that nails just get in the way of my diggin'.

Anybody have a problem with long toenails while shooting? Asking for a friend.
