Despite the popularity of rifles and handguns, the shotgun has a long history as a traditional home defense firearm.

Should You Choose a Pump-Action or Semi-Automatic Shotgun for Home Defense?

I like pump guns. My latest is a Mossberg with the heavy barrel, ghost ring sight and 8 shot magazine.
It's a heavy son of a gun but it even has a bayonet lug. All shotguns should have a bayonet for those marauding Vikings and whatnot.
Here it is:

If I was thinking about going that route I’d go with the pump. As they say the sound of racking that round is a bone chilling.
That's what I like to refer to as "Shotgun Myth #2" (Shotgun Myth #1 is "You don't have to aim it"...).

All racking the slide is going to do is tell your opponent where you are...and invite incoming rounds.

Why give up the advantage of surprise?

Dude, that's like the number one busted shotgun myth. Maybe number two right behind " You don't even have to aim". There are reasons to choose a pump, but the "Menacing" sound of it cocking is NOT one of them. PSA, always have your SD weapon ALREADY LOADED and try not to do stuff that gives away your position PRIOR to firing your weapon.

Well then it’s a good thing I have no interest in buying one anyway. 😂😂😂😂 it probably comes from my time with Mossberg where I had my hands in making close to 1 million of them.

Are you saying you guys made junk ? Because I have an all original 32 ( at least) year old Mossberg 500 that started life as what they now call the "Cruiser model" with literally tens of thousands of rounds through it. Last year the safety finally gave up, but other than that it has never missed a beat. I bet I went 20 of those years without ever taking the action out of the receiver to clean it too. Most certainly NOT junk. :)

In NO WAY am I saying Mossberg made junk, I was in a way being funny about being involved making so many that I wouldn’t want to own one.
Full disclosure I’ve never shot a shotgun.

I know you weren't brother. I was pretty much joking as well.

You've seriously never fired a shotgun? One day on the range with me and you would be addicted. Just today I took a kid who has never fired a shotgun and was afraid to fire a shotgun and turned him into an addict. He's still babbling on to his mother about it right this minute. And I broke him in right. No birdshot. All 00B and slugs.

3/4 full 5 gallon water jugs literally explode when you hit them with the buckshot brother. It is a joy to behold.

I understand since I spent many hours in the proofing room and final shot range before packing finished products.
I honestly enjoy rifles more then shotguns.
