Smith and Wesson K22

Great hard to find addition to your budding S & W revolver collection! Fighting the temptation is useless; you will be driven to acquire others! Besides, it will hold its value much better than a Glock.😉
Thanks Recusant I know you and Hans know the older smith revolver i very happy with the find . By the serial number it’s at ship date 1980 and I toke off the grips to clean and its stamp 5/80 so I think everything is original

In the old terms, that would be a “K-22 Target Masterpiece”.

If it was made in 1980, it’s a Model 17. Should be stamped under the crane.

Also, if I remember correctly, which is getting harder to do, I believe that Smith used to either write or stamp at least part of the pistol’s serial number on the inside of the right grip up until the late seventies. So for 1980 production your new Smith is as right as rain.

Yes it’s stamp 17-4

You are so right Hans once you get an older you are hooked something about the its made different from the new ones
If you haven’t yet gotten a copy of “The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson”, I strongly recommend it.

This is the latest—5th—edition, but…if you’re mainly looking at older revolver, the older editions work just as well. The pricing will be outdated, but…I never found it to be accurate, anyway.

I’ve got the 3rd edition…might get the new one.

And yes—they are an addiction…once you know what you’re looking for, you’d be amazed at what you can find sitting on shelves.
