Smith & Wesson to Discontinue Shield 1.0 Models Effective Immediately

Well, I'm assuming this also means the Version 1 Performance Center Shields as well. If true, that makes four of my Shields discontinued (V1 Sheild 9mm w/installed Apex trigger, and V1 PC Shields in 9, 40 and 45). That only leaves my recently purchased Performance Center 9mm Shield Plus still in production. Good news, at least for now, that S&W will still provide these to California, as their approve gun list grows smaller every time a new one is approved (Three are removed for every new approved firearm).

Wonder what this does to your lifetime service agreement/warranty now?
i would like to think you can still send in the current firearm, for repairs. they are only stopping making new ones.

it would be foolish of the company to totally abandon customers, as that could lead to a mass exodus of customers, of all thier other product lines. thinking they would spend lots of money and get shafted later.

I can see the logic behind discontinuing older generations of firearms when new generations are released. I think this would be much more common if it weren't for California being so difficult for manufacturers to work with. Most other consumer products phase out older models as "new & improved" versions of the products are introduced to the market.
It amazes that any American court could believe that a government approved firearm list that requires three models to be removed for every new model added is constitutional. By design, the list would eventually only have 1-2 approved models. I firmly believe that S&W will stand by their warranty and continue to service older firearms, but it would be nice if California weren't such a headache for gun companies.

Typically, there isn't a problem. Companies foolish? Rarely. Many factors determine if and when something's discontinued such as worn out tooling, customer demands, material supplies and many others like regulations. Smart companies usually always have customers needs in mind because it's in both of their best interests to do so. Biting hand that feeds something only happens every so often with poor results. Ignore, not listening to customers needs? Results? GM comes to mind in the 1970's? Fuel shortage, government mandates then made matters worse for everyone. Imports overran the US. Sound familiar?

when California falls into the ocean, really soon too.....it won't be a problem no more.

then all the fruits and nuts can go down with the ship as well..

this could be, may be true.....but i ain't got the time to sift thru all those fruits and nuts to find them.....
Do realize that's not only place there's a mixture?
Besides, there's planes, trains and other vehicles now days, plus people often relocate?
Sometimes am quite fond of fruits and nuts. Adds spice to life and helps keep boredom away? :)

i am on dietary restrictions.....

nuts and some fruits are a big no-no.......

and that border wall is also needed to keep them out of the rest of the country. sorta like an "Escape from L.A. part 35"....starring Snake Blitzen...

Random question for you SW shield owners.

are you able to swap slides on 1, 2 and even plus models? I don’t have any shields but wondering if the slides are compatible like they are with the various hellcats to slide off and on.

@Lchtus, I'm able to swap slides on my V1 9mm Shield and my V1 Performance Center 9mm Shield, which has the ported barrel and slide. My new 9mm Performance Center Shield Plus, has a 4" bbl (compared to 3.1" on the V1's), so the slide is longer. Interestingly, the non Performance Center 9mm Shield Plus, has a 3.1" bbl, so it may possibly be interchangeable as well.

Good to know @BET7 all the stock of SW has me thinking. Awaiting my shield plus, and saw some other in stock cheap buys on older model v1 / 2. I been slide swapping my hellcats since their red dots, Comp, and barrels are all different to play around. Got caught up in the sig legos and been thinking about interchangeable parts in common models and was not sure with SW. cool stuff!
