Wirenut
Hellcat
All my friends I spoke with are in agreement that if this was an existing single family home that was converted to multi-family home the only way they all alarm is they are connected together.no, they all sound off in the 1 apartment.....if there is smoke (or a bad detector) in that 1 apartment.
same for the others.
same for the hallways and basement.
What I would do and this is just me.
It's a bit of work, but I would open each detector and disconnect the orange wire which interconnects them all in other words if one trips they all respond, by removing the orange wire each detector would work independently from each other just like a battery detector and hopefully if a detector goes off in one apartment everyone in that apartment only can hear it and not the other units.
Again this is what I would do and I am not advising you to do this not knowing the cities fire code, but I believe this will fix your issues
