I am just glad my furnace made it thru the deep freeze before starting to act up. Have had to reset it three times today. Have a furnace guy coming, Friday...

nope....a "little bit" of wood, cannot measure up to the natural gas, or oil, or electric heating bills up here in the north, or New England....even wood logs, or pellets up here are high priced as well.

fuel heating bills can be something like as low as $500 per month, and to the moon others


questions would be,

how much is a cord of wood in your area,

how much do you go thru each winter

how often does it get cold to even burn that wood..??

compared to daily home heating up here.


that's why i look forward to 100 degree days all winter long up here, just not the 200 degree summers..!!!!!!!

There is a bi metal thermal that makes sure the pilot flame fired before adding gas. Turnoff. Take a piece of sand paper, form a strip and clean the wire probe.

My house is all electric except my gas (Propane) stove. I have about 6 100lb tanks. We go through one every 18 months or so. I am getting a wall mounted propane furnace which will be just for heat when the electric goes out. They run about $400 and I can run a line out for the tanks. That way my generators can worry about the well and the fridge.

Any old way, it's been single digits here for a couple weeks ( until today, it got to 30). My winter time electric bills are around $200. Summer they're about $40. A wood stove makes no economic sense for me.

We have two Geo-Thermal units, both are inside the house. So, no worries for us. They run on well water.

Remember to drive careful on the roads since you likely don't know how to drive in snow, and watch out for the cold-blooded critters falling out of the trees, or trying to sneak into your house to get warm.

is that called a "thermal coupler"?

if so, i usually have both (i have 2 heating systems), replaced about every 3 years.


mine look like this:

the "rod" is the thermal coupler, the piece at the top is the pilot...

if this is not clean, and the carbon builds up, it will not allow the boiler to start....

this past serve "tune up", the tech did as you said, he used an emery cloth to clean it, giving me maybe another year or 2 of service.....

i think when i get mine replaced, its about $250 per heating system

Snow all acrost the south, GOOD HOW DO YOU LIKE IT! Ya all thought it was funny when we Yankees talked about zero degree and shoveling snow with your 50+, pictures of sunshine and complained about snowbirds.
