Springfield Armory Garrison 1911 finish and rear slide overhang

What's "wilderness" 1911? Never heard that term and I have millions of acres of wilderness next door.

If SA is powder-coating 1911's now I'm glad I got mine before that started happening.
if it is true, that any company is going by way of powder coatings, i am glad i prefer SS over that nonsense.

i think i only have 1, 1911 left that is blued, and that is the Tisas, and it is a durable coating.

i dumped my S/A A1 weeks ago.

Any 1911 you can buy for under a grand is not going to compare to a custom. Almost any 1911 you buy that isn't a custom or high end is going to require some sort of TLC from a smith. Not a hard fast rule, but a general expectation. I have a CD ( Phillipines) that has never given me any problems and runs JHP just fine as long as it's not Hornady with the polymer tip.

My opinion, which is probably less than popular here, this being a SA forum, is that after reading the many, MANY threads involving SA 1911s I would never buy a SA 1911. If I did though I would not be expecting flawless operation out of it without a trip to a gunsmith first.

Comparing XDs to 1911s isn't relevant because as you correctly pointed out, SA doesn't make the XDs. And striker fired plastic guns have much more forgiving tolerances than 1911s. I will say that it is universally accepted that SA has a very good customer service department, but far too many people have unrealistic expectations with regards to their 1911s.

I suspect you will get your Garrison back in the same condition you sent it to them in. Your options will be to take it to a smith or sell it. As for the finish your options will be to re-blue it or live with it.
Well, an XD is a gun manufactured on an "assembly line" similar to an "assembly line" used to manufacture 1911 guns.

Even high end 1911's have issues. I purchased a Wilson Combat CQB for close to 3 grand. First trip out it had issues and I had to send it back. Turn around was less than a week but "THEY" made up more than good for it. I also had a rather frustrating issue with a SA 35 I bought. 3 times back and forth with the same issues until finally they just gave me a new weapon. So as others have said here there are issues that pop up even with high end weapons but to me it's how a company deals with it and how they respond and treat their customers. Good luck Sa customer service is great to deal with. Just my two cents...
I agree with you that Springfield Armory has had excellent CS during the nearly 20 years I have bought and owned 16 XD, XDM, and XDM Elites.

Which has what to do with anything I just said ?
You said: "Comparing XDs to 1911s isn't relevant because as you correctly pointed out, SA doesn't make the XDs. And striker fired plastic guns have much more forgiving tolerances than 1911s." I said both guns are made on assembly lines; not so much by hand by a single craftsman. Regarding tolerances, my XD / XDM guns have better tolerances and finishes than this more costly 1911. The Springfield Armory brand name is on both guns regardless of where the factory is located. I will continue to hope that made in USA means at least comparable or better Springfield Armory products.

If fitting and tolerances are greater and more critical on the 1911, why don't any of my XD, XDM, or XDM Elites have fit and finish issues like this Garrison? I don't understand.
The tolerances on the XD are looser, the XD line are completely made in Croatia, this same gun was also called HS2000 before Springfield got the rights to import then under the name XD. They’re not 2 different factories, but a different country. Like on Glocks, most of them are made in Austria and some are made here in Smyrna Georgia, same gun, but there is a slight difference. So basically what I am saying is the XD line has no Springfield employees working or manufacturing them

Annihilator my friend, the SA XD guns are made at a factory in Karlovac, Croatia and the SA 1911 is made in at least one factory here in the USA. "Two factories" meaning separate factories, but both guns are SA. Is it proper for the slide on a 1911 not to fit flush with the rear of the frame? I have thought the fit should be flush. If it is supposed to be flush, this is a little sloppy.

Lots of 1911’s are that way, yea, I don’t disagree with it being somewhat sloppy, but in todays gun manufacturing, it’s common, I don’t like it, but it happens. And technically the XD is a HS2000 gun, it’s not a SA factory, just a different stamping on slide and molding on frame saying Springfield

Yep. I just don't have "mismatch" slide to frame fit like that on any of my guns made in Karlovac that are stamped with Springfield Armory brand. None of my "Karlovac guns" rattle or anything and they run smooth as butter. The triggers on the Elites are GREAT. I like Springfield Armory company and I hope they do something beneficial to my 1911 Garrison I sent to Geneseo. I would really like to brag about my Springfield Armory 1911 like I brag about my XDMs and especially my XDM Elites. Thanks!

I’m quite sure they will fix you up, great company and customer service, keep us in the loop when you get it back.

Is your Tisas blued or is it Cerakoted black?
these old eyes many times cannot differentiate one from another.

many times, at the LGS's, i have to be corrected as to the finish, as i call them ALL black.

unless of course, it is a SS, or 2 tone.

i will say this too, is that on my Tisas..??

when a 45 ACP casing pops out.??

there aren't any tiny chips around the ejection port, as there have been on ANY S/A that i have owned, or still own.

heck, even my Glocks have no chipping issues, doesn't say much for a S/A finish now does it.??

again, this is why i made the shift for any of my current or soon to purchase 1911's to be SS, (or 2 tone)

I have run hundreds of rounds thru my stainless 1911 .45ACP Garrison with zero problems whatsoever. I did replace the grips with ones from Altamont that fill my hand just a tad better. Those thin grips that came with the pistol were just toooo uncomfortable, at least for me. I’m actually saving my “cash stash” for another one, I like my current one so much.

I agree. Aside from OLD guns, anything I procure these days or in the future is stainless.
