Springfield Armory Saint Victor blast shield

Is there a blast shield that will fit over the stock muzzle break of my St Victor so that I won't disturb too much to either side of my indoor range lane ? or do I have to take it off and find one to put on ? I prefer not to remove the Saint V muzzle breake

  • Muzzle brakes are made to reduce recoil.
  • Compensators are made to reduce muzzle rise.
  • Flash hiders are made to eliminate muzzle blast.

I'm a combat vet Marine so I know the rudimentary function of those device but since retiring out of the Corps it's been 20 years since I held a rifle and just now getting into the civilian market of AR15 I just want to know if there is a blast shield that will fit over the Mbrake since I prefer not to take them off in consideration to the shooter that's either side of me at the range especially an indoor one

I abhor indoor, public ranges.

Short answer: no.

Blast shields are designed to fit specific muzzle devices.

Even if you were able to shield the muzzle brake your rifle would still have a very loud report and flash just like shooting any carbine length center fire rifle without a muzzle device.

You're best bet is to change out to a flash hider, forward comp or blast diverter as a muzzle brake on a 5.56 rifle isn't really necessary with the 5.56 round not having much recoil.

An option is to get a suppressor if you want a device to go “OVER” your muzzle brake. This will still mean replacing your brake with a brake/flash hider, etc from the suppressor company. It has threads on the outside so the suppressor screws over the new device.

Edit: see attached pic. Shows how one companies suppressor fits over the threaded mizzle device. (Top of pic. First diagram set : “Charlie ASR mount”)

Usually when you put a suppressor on a muzzle device, it uses a quick-attach feature, at least in my experience.

You also need to use Rocksett (NOT LOCTITE) to lock the muzzle device in place.

Rugged suppressors makes this device - blast diverter - in this link. The problem is, you need one of their muzzle devices to attach it onto. The device is pretty expensive and it would be an extra $100 for one of their muzzle devices (flash hider or brake). But it would do what you are looking to do. Have a regular muzzle brake on the gun, but be able to add a blast diverter if/when you want… But to answer your initial question, I am unaware of being able to add a blast diverter to an existing muzzle brake. There just isn’t a way to attach it.

Or you could get this blast diverter from Springfield and just use it as your muzzle device. At least it would keep everything Springfield if that’s what you’re looking to do.

It also wouldn’t be that hard to get any kind of blast diverter and just swap out the muzzle brake when you’re going to shoot indoors. It’s an easy swap, all you need is an armorers wrench. Takes about 2 minutes.

Teflon tape and proper torque is another option, though not as tough as a thread locker it works really well. I've used this method with direct thread suppressors and some QD mounts without any issues yet, though time will tell.

PSA to those new to suppressors:
Crush washers with a suppressor QD mount is a big no-no

Any experience using the SA Forward Blast Diverter (that’s on the Saint V 7.5 Pistol) instead of the standard equipped muzzle brake on the St V 16” barrel?
Just wondering if recoil and rise would noticeably increase using it on the 16” w/5.56 (than 223).
Indoors, I surely won’t have much affect on dB of that from the side-by-side noise.

This is the one I put on my AR10. I didn't get to shoot it this past fall due to not having enough hunting ammo to burn. Hopefully some 168 grain Winchester Silver tips will become available in the near future.

I don’t have direct experience with the differences between using this on a pistol vs a 16” rifle. I know it does direct the blast down range. Both the volume and the flash. Yeah, there is reverberation inside, but it’s not as bad as that blast and flash shooting directly at a neighbor.

I used to have the Saint Victor Pistol with this on it. Here’s an interesting picture of the flames coming out of it. Two separate frames taken with my phone. With a muzzle brake, most of this would be directed sideways.
