Question, I just purchased a Springfield M1A1 standard walnut, when I lock the bolt rearward, if I point the weapon up or down to the ground, I hear something sliding up and down just under the hand guard. I cannot figure out what it is, is that noise normal for a M1A? My first M1A. Thanks

That's the gas piston sliding back & forth, and is normal.

BTW, there is no M1A1 model. They're all M1As with different names.
