Springfield Ronin 1911 - where to buy

Difference on guns and shoes?
Usually, but not always headache free.
If traveling, TSA frowns on these gun themed shoes and won't allow them:

If you are serious and not joking then TSA is way over the top.

But a truly functional pair would be a hit.

Good on you for asking questions first!
Go shoot before buying. Use friends guns, rent guns, before you make a purchase.
IF you rent a gun, make sure it is in good condition meaning no loose sights or grips.

Thank you! That is what I did and how I picked this gun. I tried out about 35 or so guns (most 9mm) between two of my friends and renting guns at several ranges. I had best experience with 1911s, so then I focused on trying a few of those (I could find a Colt, a Kimber and this Springfield). I liked them all, the Springfield seems to fit best in my hands. I am a scientist by training so I had to go through my own paces, research, tryout before drawing a concussion lol!

TSA has been a lot since inception. Wasn't implemented very well.

Could be wild shoes on a functional pair. - High heel shoes on these feet aren't likely happening though.

There's been other things thought of in shoes over the years, remember TV's Get Smart's shoe phone?
Good old Max ....Just watch where walking or what's stepped in though? :)

Welcome to the forum. My step daughter used to live in Port Orchard , across the sound from you. She has been back here in Illinois for two years now.

Never be scared of asking questions. We have all had to start somewhere . Luckily I grew up around guns and started shooting at a young age with the proper training.

It sounds like you are on the proper path to becoming a firearm owner. Good luck .

Thank you everybody for your advice and support...and sense of humor! This has been a great thread and has certainly made me more comfortable about stepping into the gun world. I admit, gun ranges and gun stores have been very intimidating because every time I stepped in one, I was the only woman and I knew how clueless I was about guns. But the experience there and here has been all around great! People have been so helpful and patient. So thank you!! And with great pride I shall let you all know that I did purchased the Springfield Ronin 1911 in a gun store, all by myself :). Waiting for background check. Meanwhile hunting for bullets.... i don't need anything fancy, 9mm...any suggestions where to get them for a decent price, maybe in bulk?

For bulk, I usually go online and get whatever I need from places like “Luckygunner.com” or “ammunitiondepot.com”. There are several others I’m sure other members can recommend as well.
Good luck with your Ronin and welcome aboard the forum.

You should at least get two boxes of 'fancy' self defense ammo. Ball ammo is great for plinking and practice but not the best when facing a situation that requires the use of force.

You want two because you should use some to become familiar with the difference in performance.

You might be able to get by with one box of these.

The more you get accustomed to firearms, the more likely you'll get with finding ammunition sources too. Besides online like BET7 mentioned, there may be places you may not suspect that may have and sell ammo like for example fishing bait and tackle shops, hardware stores and gas stations? You may or may not pay higher prices at local places or LGS. Many places have gone to locally are the same prices or lower than online especially with 9mm ammo. - Being in smaller desolate locations, sometimes people and some businesses improvise especially in smaller towns. You may be pleasantly surprised?

Are these the fancy ones I should use mainly for defense?

Make sure to take note of the bullet weight. Personally, I recommend starting with a lighter bullet until you are familiar with your gun and develop good habits and shot placement. Then work your way up if you feel the need to. The lighter the bullet the less recoil. Therefore, increased accuracy. As you build your proficiency then begin to explore a little.

The weights can very from 50 to 150+ its really about what you feel comfortable with.

If it were me, I would look at these:

Also, make friends at your local gun shop. This will be one of the best resources. Aside that I would try to find some form of training. Having someone else observe and give helpful criticism is invaluable.
