Springfield Saint Victor AR10 .308 Grouping Issues

Greetings,

I'm sure there are threads about this already but I recently purchased the Saint Victor chambered in 308 and I can't get tight groups at 100 yard. The gun is fastened into a gun sled and the optic on it was transferred from another one of my guns and has proven to be reliable. One shot can be high and to the right, then the next shot low and to the left, and the third shot could be centered but low. I would imagine a Spingfield 308 should have a 1 MOA at 100 yards. 2 MOA at most. This rifle was the floor model since it was the last one left in the area. Has anyone that has had this gun figured out the issue with this rifle now grouping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check your scope mounts.
A slightly loose scope in the rings or rings/mount that are loose will throw off groups

Start with double checking all your equipment is tight and secure

I've been using Hornady Whitetail 150 grain and then I tried using Hornady Whitetail 165 grain and got the same results. Today or tomorrow after I recheck the scope mounts I'm going to try Remington Core Lockt 180 grain and Federal Bullets to see if the gun just doesn't like the ammo I'm using. I plan to use the gun for hog hunting so I'm using hunting rounds.

Just a suggestion, but after you check/tighten the scope mounts etc, run the same ammo you previously ran (hornady whitetail) before you switch to remington. This way you’ve only changed one variable. If the group tightens up then you’ll know it was loose equipment. If not, then try different ammo.
Like i said, just my suggestion. Let is know how it turns out.

Thank you! And run some more of the same rounds through it after I recheck the mounts and keep you posted.

And use a thread sealant on the mount screws. We used to use momma’s clear finger nail polish. Set the screw nicely but easily removed if need be. 👍 Back when shooting an AR seriously we used a rubber “wedge” to tighten tolerances between the receiver halves.

on my stag ar 10, 308
when the rounds start the high , then low then correct then correct then omg high
its always the scope has wiggled, and just a touch on one mount screw fixes it to shoot same place over and over...although in wrong place

i found in my safe the scope was getting pushed or pressed and it was changing my moa
so now
i have it standing with no touch by anything else
and i also have 3 bore-sight lasers
2 are made by sight mark and it chambers into the breach , makes for a fast check
and one mounts to end of barrel, it also makes for fast checks
i use 2 to check after any adjustments to give me some sanity and quell the ADDDDDDDD , squirrel

i have a white building at 100 yards at end of my property, i do it at night so the red shows up really well
and then the scope lights are easier to marry up the dots, i clamp the rifle to a bench on the porch and get with it.
then at range it tells me its good

imo the massive shocks and everything involved...tend to make scopes an easy target to get out of calibration

my next investment is a hard sided case vice my tactical soft case, it does nothing to protect the scope from being a point of hit if anything gets laid next to it on the seat or floor

Greetings, so I checked the mounts and they were up to torque spec. I went out shooting again earlier. The circled touching shots were the last 2 shots at 25 yards. So I backed up to 100 yards with my shooting bench and expected the to be high at 100 yards but I'm a little baffled on how the first 2 shots at 100 yards drifted so far left. The 3rd shot was after making some adjustments to the scope but that was also my last bullet unfortunately. Any ideas on what would cause shots in the red at 25 yards to drift so far left at 100 yards?

Distance.

The shots to the left at 25 is magnified at 100, and more further out.

Figure out what your standard zero distance will be and adjust accordingly.

No idea. I would contact SA. Share the pics and what you did. May be a bad barrel? Send it back and have them evaluate it.

Did you use a proper bench rest ? Sled ?
At 100 yards, shooter error on the trigger, or technique can be pretty magnified.
Has anyone else shot the firearm to confirm?
