Stoeger Double Defense Shotgun Review: Sub $500 Home Defense

Stoeger Industries offers the Double Defense double-barreled shotguns available in both over/under and side-by-side configurations. Both models are available in 12- or 20-gauge at manufacturer-suggested retail of $449 for the over/unders and $489 for the side-by-sides. That’s a great value, especially for a firearm that probably won’t be restricted any time soon.

The shotgun is made by E.R. Amantino in Veranopolis, Brazil.

I have some history with an old fashioned "coach" twelve gauge shotgun. Man, talk about a growler.

While I know we are all supposed to be trained, prepared, geared up to lend Seal Team Six a helping hand at a moment's notice:rolleyes: there's not much more instinctive or simple as a break open shotgun. Push the lever, holes appear. Fill the holes with the short cigar sized thingies, pull trigger. If nothing happens, co-ck hammer(s), push/pull the other switch and try again. repeat as necessary.
Stoeger Industries Double Defense shotguns, lack the "racking the slide that scares away everything within 1000 yards." Personally, I could live without the Lego attachments. If I didn't have something similar already, under $500 I'd give one a serious look, and might anyway.

I get the idea of "Simple", but for me personally I see no defensive value in a break action shotgun. At least not that any number of other shotguns I have do better. Plus I already have god only knows how many double barrel shotguns.

Myself & 3 friends are interested in these for "truck" shotguns, and we all have Benelli M4's.

Various firearms have a niche from low-end to high-end.

I kick myself for not getting the Mossberg Thunder Ranch version that were available pre-Covid since they were a bit nicer than these Stoegers.

Plus, if I have to travel thru "Iron Curtain" states I'd have something that's better than platforms that are forbotten in them.

My .02

Joe Biden, is that you?

Not to mention the sheer intimidation factor. I spent one memorable time looking down the wrong end of a .357 Python-IT looked like a 2” sewer pipe😳. I can’t even imagine looking down twin 12 bores😕

Now see, THIS is why I want a vent rib on my 20" 870 with the 8-round extended mag. ;);)
