Suggestion for Spingfield Armory (Product Labeling)

I love my XD Subcompact, and I' frequently perusing the SA website for other weapons that I might want to buy. Problem is, I live in California. So I can only buy a weapon that is listed on the ever-shrinking* list of weapons deemed "California Compliant." My suggestion for SA is that they add a designator to weapon descriptions that reveal whether there is a California compliant version of this weapon on the market. Then I won't continue to torture myself by reading about and getting excited over a gun I can never buy (i.e., the 911).

* - Ever shrinking? Last year, the voters passed a law in California that removes three handguns from the 'approved' list for every new handgun added to the list. And, every year, every model of a handgun must be recertified as 'compliant' and added to the list again as a 'new' weapon. So, in about two years (as purely a function of mathematics), there will be no weapons in California that are approved for purchase.

Right now the easiest way is to go to the CA state registry and search the model #s with Google. Pistol Models starting with P are 1911 variants and XD are the poly striker family.

If you’re looking to ogle guns the XD CA models are all based on the original XD (not the Mod2, XDM, or XDS) in 3.3”/4”/5”. You can also search Springfield’s site for Low Capacity (although that doesn’t always mean CA compliant). If you search California you’ll see the rifles Springfield has to offer in CA.

Good hunting. Just verify that roster before you buy!!!!!

And yeah, while I was poking around In there I saw the expiry dates. Every single one is 1/1/22. God help y’all out west.

If you are pro 2A or a gun enthusiast, living in California is tantamount to condoning their unconstitutional behavior. You are literally funding the people who want to strip you of your rights. And you pay more taxes than most people in this country. I know the weather is nice, but man, GTF outta there pronto.

Pretty much. And, side effects of too many listening to "Go West Young Man" spiel? Was many opportunities there. But, at what cost? Lived there for a few months, was more than enough of state government's overly idealistic regulations to last lifetime.

Is a good thought to have CA Conforming firearms listed and advertised there at SA and elsewhere too. But? Like you said, list keeps changing, then to include different specialized internet sales info for every state too? Bit aggravating?

Just a thought on california being so overly restrictive on so many things including firearms after reading some comments simply saying "Move"? That may be in effect what state government intentionally wants or may end up getting if it doesn't relax it's methods, rules and regulations when no one shows up to vote either way for whatever?

Regardless, many people tend to move and stay away from heavy restricted areas. Weather's usually nice in CA, but CA government tends to be more out west than many people living there from what have seen. While it's generally not too easy or feasible to just stop, drop and move, more and more are given the opportunity and do. Hopefully easier to do other things to just survive there?

Here is an option that will get you pretty close:
  • Go to https://www.springfield-armory.com/firearm-selector/
  • In the dropdowns at the top of the page select "State Compliant" > "Yes"
  • That will narrow down the list quite a bit - many (but not all) products listed there are available in California. Some products are marked specifically as "CA Compliant."
Thanks Louis,
Just thought is all? Adding "Compliant" Or "State Compliant" wording above Firearms Selector option on web site may help clarify Firearm Selector option better and be more helpful to potential customers?

Hi Bob, could you please clarify your suggestion a bit more? I'm not sure that I totally understand what you are suggesting.

Hi Louis,
Thanks for asking, sure....

On SA's website, where you indicated/specified earlier, there's an area marked "Firearms Selector" on left side.
Possibly, change that area to say: "State Compliant Firearms Selector" is all was trying to explain.
Reasoning? It may help clarify better to others what it's intended meaning and purpose is more so?

At first I had little idea what it was for until thought more in that direction, since selector doesn't really apply to or for everyone unless residing in or traveling through one of those states or areas.

The way first deciphered it's meaning was it could be to help anyone, everywhere to select any firearms suited to them in general? Make more sense now?

Ah, understood, Bob. The firearms selector is actually intended to help anyone, everywhere to find a firearm suited for them. Perhaps someone wanted to see all rifles - sure, just select "Firearm Type" > "Rifle" in the dropdown filters. Or perhaps someone want to see all 9mm firearms - same thing, just use the "Caliber" selector.

Or perhaps all state compliant 9mms? Then select the "Caliber" > "9mm" option and "State Compliant" > "Yes" option at the same time and you can see all of the state compliant 9mm firearms.

So it's a multipurpose tool to allow any number of filtering options on Springfield Armory products. The state compliant aspect is just one facet of the tool.

Thanks for your input on this and hopefully my explanation helps!

You're welcome Louis. Me, understand? Heck, just got a little bit more confused! It doesn't take much sometimes? :) Am semi joking. I don't use the firearms selector, but do use other selectors such as caliber when visiting site. Tried it before and didn't get it at the time. I tend to be old school, like/use more specific functions, multipurpose get's me multiconfused! :)
For example: "Tone" is okay on stereos, rather have Bass and Treble.
