Suggestions for red dot sight

I’ve been thinking just to leave it as is. I’m a pretty good shot without it and have never had a red dot in any of my pistols. Just one of those accessories I was curious as to whether would be good to have or useful.

i don't have any compacts shorter that 4" (s/w 10mm) and would think having an optic on a cc would be more difficult to conceal?

CC with a small optic designed for slimmer pistols is not an issue
I have a Leupold Delta that is really nice. I did a Dave Spaulding RDS class and no issues. So you wouldn’t go wrong with it.
Others like closed emitters and I have dabbled with Aimpoint Acro 2 and those are great. There are also some Trijicon offerings that I know folks that use them as does my Sheriffs Department and they are good.

Doesn’t look like that firearm is capable of mounting a red dot. That rear sight is dovetailed. The slide is not milled to mount a red dot sight… Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Are going to use a dovetail mount or have the slide milled? I would personally recommend going with a RMS footprint optic. That footprint includes many of the micro dots that will make concealing much easier. I prefer the Holosun 507K v2 green dot. I have this on a few of my carry guns and it's a great optic.

A laser is an alternative to an optic, and it would be way easier to install.

This is probably your best option for that pistol. The RailMaster you were looking at requires a Picatinny rail to mount the laser on. The Laser grips are going to be your best and easiest option to install.

If you are going to try your first red dot I would recommend something larger than an EMP to train with and decide if you like a red dot. They require a lot of practice to get good with and even more on too to get good with a small carry gun. I certainly wouldn’t mill the EMP until your absolutely sure you are comfortable and confident with a red dot. Myne grab an Echelon and use that as your intro to red dots. Also, IMO, lasers are a non-starter. You have to soend your time watching that laser and not concentrating on properly aiming. With the red dot, if you can see it on the target you are going to hit the target regardless of where that dot is in the window.
Personally, I wouldn’t get a slide milled unless I was sure I wanted an optic, as well as which one. I think the best solution in this thread is try the XD9 mod 3. You can get a reasonably priced optic to try out the optic life and still spend WAY less than slide milling and a quality optic are going to cost.
There are also other alternatives that come with an optic. I might suggest seeing if a friend has an optic fitted gun you could try, or someplace to rent one. Though either option likely won’t give you enough time to become skilled at using an optic.
I actually bought an optic and plate (Holosun 507C) for my Emissary AOS but after I fired it, decided I didn’t need it. I do run an optic on my Hellcat and my G23 .357 Sig conversion. I like staying skilled with both irons and optics.

The good and probably most important perk of getting a slide milled is you can mill it for a direct mount. That is the best way to mount a RDS
There are several firearms that can direct mount a lot of different RDS OR some can be ordered for a certain RDS like Glock and M&P that I know of but it might be some leg work to get it (AIM surplus offered Glock G45 with Acro O2 direct mounted a few weeks ago so they’d be a good source)
Other RDS makers like Holosun you can order their one make that can be direct mounted to Glock M&P and Sig (which Sig is cut for a Delta Point and Sig RD for direct mounting as well)
The downside to slide milling is your more than likely committed to that specific RDS unless you find someone that can make a custom plate.
That said if you need a plate that is the one aftermarket option I would suggest over the free factory supplied ones. The Glock are some type of compressed metal and will break.
