We have a recognition system where I work that allows people to recognize you for a job ( or jobs) well done and you are awarded with points that you can redeem through an online gift shop. One of the cool features of the gift shop is that one of the choices is an assortment of gift cards, and in particular Scheels gift cards. See where I’m going here? So I decided to use some of my points to buy myself a gun that under normal circumstances I would not normally buy. That gun turned out to be this -

I’ve always loved the PPK/S, but for me it's going to be a gun I look at more than I shoot and it’s not exactly inexpensive. But, you only go round once so I now own one of the most beautiful guns ever made and to be honest, it is waaaay better looking in person than it is in most of the pictures you see.

So today I headed to the range aware of a lot of negative stories of slide bite and loads of recoil and being a hard gun to hold well and shoot well. To my pleasure I discovered that all those stories are bullsh*t and my very first round fired through this little beauty from 7yds looked like this.

From there on the PPK/S was pretty much magical. I must admit that I have a slight red welt on the web of my hand from the tang, but I think that has as much to do with my grip. After the first shot I moved the target back to 10 yds and the results were not quite as tight as my usual shooting but given the tiniest iron sights I’ve come across ( I had to wear my readers - which is why I’m an unabashed red dot man) I’m not unhappy with the first 50 rounds. I was genuinely pleased with how the sights settled right back on target, enabling some fairly rapid fire. So 10 out of 10 for the PPK/S.

I also took along my Gen 2 Archon Type B (head target) and Bond’s other gun the Walther P99 (bottom target) and as you can see the PPK/S acquitted itself quite well next to them. Not a bad day spent with Ze Chermans.
