Suppressor cleaning

What do you guys use, is simple green ok to use on aluminum baffles?
Not unless you are 150% sure you get all simple green residue out, Simple green is not safe on Aluminum for long periods of time for soaking say overnight. They make a special aluminum safe simple green made for cleaning aircraft. Simple green is ok for quick cleaning like sitting down and doing it right then. I have accidentally etched an aluminum gun frame that I forgot in the tank. It started to eat through the anodizing but that was after a 24hr soak. I use it all the time for cleaning, someone like me who always has cuts on the hand. It is a a great cleaner that does not burn.

Is it safe to use Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner on aluminum?
When used with caution and according to the instructions, Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner has been safely and successfully used to clean aluminum. Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner, Crystal Simple Green Industrial Cleaner & Degreaser, and Simple Green Pressure Washer Concentrates have been used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used: aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner can accelerate the corrosion process.

Therefore, contact times for unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green product residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

Simple Green has also developed break-through water based cleaners that are safe for use on metals, plastics, rubber and high tech alloys. Extreme Simple Green Aircraft & Precision Cleaner and Simple Green Pro HD are available on both the industrial and retail markets, respectively. These products were initially developed for the aircraft industry and extensive testing shows that they are safe and effective on a variety of metals and other sensitive surfaces even in the most extreme circumstances.”

Rimfire suppressors should be cleaned at least every 500 rounds to avoid excessive lead build up. I've had to literally chisel the lead off of rimfire suppressor baffles. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner on an anodized aluminum suppressor as it can remove the finish over time.

You can avoid that by using jacketed bullets. White vinegar is brilliant for cleaning lead of of suppressors and compensators. I have a comp on a TX22 Competition that will lead up at an alarming rate and vinegar does an amazing job.

I'll try vinegar next time. I still have a surplus of uncoated .22lr left over that I got before the covid buying panic that I've been shooting to use it up.

Will Dabbs says the crap from a suppressor is very toxic. For those who clean suppressors, what do you do with the waste? Dump it in the trash? Down the drain? Pour it on your land?
I put mine on that dead spot on @KillerFord1977 s front lawn.

@SimonRL thank you for the white vinegar tip for clean a suppressor. I cleaned a heavily carbon and leaded Dead Air Mask today by putting regular strength household white vinegar into a sonic cleaner and I was able to knock off all the fouling in a matter of minutes. Easiest .22lr suppressor cleaning I've ever done. Thank again for the tip!

I’m so glad it worked. I learned this cleaning the compensator in my TX22. I had heard they could lead up but had no idea how bad it could get in a really short time. The first time I cleaned it was with a dental pick with no vinegar and it was a nightmare!
