The Handgun Red-Dot Revolution

Good article. I'm just getting into red dots. Need more time with them to get a good response on them. So far I bought a EAA Girsan with one on it ( no name on it ) and it started to shut off during multi shots.

I'm pretty 'old school' myself, but I actually had my first red dot sight back in the mid 80's IIRC. It was for a whole different purpose at the time, but now with the eyes getting older, the current trend in red dots really has my attention.

Not long after I got my Hellcat, I put a SMSc on it and even though ammo was getting scarce, I was able to shoot enough to know I like it. No, I know I really like it a lot. Even though I still try to focus on the front iron sight, it's really not as important with the red dot as it used to be with just the open irons.

The key is to focus on the dot out there on the target and not on the glass. Once you master that, you'll really like it a lot too. Sometimes 'old school' needs an update ...... this is one of those times. (y)(y)(y)

I was always an iron sights guy but after much research online, sourcing Rob Leatham, Jerry Miculek, and others, I decided put the Shield RMSc on my Hellcat. After a little more than 2 months of training with it, my target acquisition speed and accuracy have increased greatly beyond 15 yards where "senior eyes" began to slow me down. I really like the red dot a lot, especially at distance.
