Less lethal options since they are not all created equally, especially when it comes from a legality standpoint. These two articles take a look at some of the options when it comes to carrying less-than-lethal options.

IME when I was working as a Security Guard I had tweakers daring me to shoot them or threatening to take my gun and beat my ass. I even had one or two actually try to take my gun.

But when I pulled out my OC

And started shaking it up I got instant compliance.

I never actually had to spray anybody.

I think they don't really believe you'll shoot them but they absolutely believe you'll spray them.

That said, if you're going to carry OC I highly recommend you get sprayed with it. So you know how to operate with a face full of it.

Yep. Had to do that during our Non-Lethal Force training. It wasn’t pleasant. The Taser was the worst.

Because they have been sprayed before and know it sucks…..and they know your probably not going to shoot them.

OC/Pepper spray is a lot more effective than it was 30 years ago .i have used it dozens of times within the Federal Buteau of Oriaons and it shuts down trouble quick. When staff were allowed to carry it (line staff didn’t have it until 2912 in high security institutions and it finally trickled down to all around 2915) we had an 85% reduction of staff injuries as it shot down fights quick and the old school dog piles we had where staff got hurt quit being a thing!

I’m affiliated through POM and certified through Agile Training (Chuck Haggard) The great thing about OC you can use it on multiple attackers/robbers, Dogs and then gives you time to beat feet away.

And not the bad optics a shootjng will cause you.

One of my favorite things about being a Drill Sergeant was NBC training and the Gas Chamber. We always did that portion of training after lunch. The trainees got a hot lunch and ice cream sandwiches for dessert.
I ran the inside of the chamber.

Ah, yes. The oftentimes underutilized and underappreciated blackjack. I have a few different models, and don't hesitate in packing one; great little "attitude adjusters."

I still need to decide on a good non-lethal option for church security. Several of us carry firearms and pocket knives.
I'd prefer a good taser/stun gun, but the good ones just aren't in the budget and the cheap ones really aren't useful.
I have considered OC, but I really don't want to spray in a crowded sanctuary.
I am thinking maybe the gel?

Gel takes a long time to take effect.

That’s not accurate. These days gel takes effect as fast as spray. It is more wind resistant than soray. The difference is gel only effects what it touches (as no residual effects elsewhere) slray can have residual contact in other areas slightly outside the main spray (if your using a streamer) if your using a cone spray it is larger.

I dunno .
I've never * threatened * to Spray anyone .

I either Sprayed them , or didn't Spray them .

Used to be a daily thing . But 31 years ago at current employer , was just too late to get grandfathered .

But a 16 inch ASP is similar size and weight to carry as a large Blackjack , and a better more versatile tool .

I can say this from a LEO perspective and having sprayed dozens of folks. O have had more suspects run on me when I have had my sidearm out but when I drew OC nobody ran away. 90% complained and several even said I don’t way that stuff. A couple came at me and got blasted but well over 90% just cuffed up.

Real street thugs know when you can and can’t shoot them so they run from you. They know there are much looser parameters on spraying someone.

Maybe not the answers you want to hear ;

If not willing to spend for Genuine Taser brand Taser , OC is next best, and just about only other somewhat worthwhile option . ( Going on the assumption that extensive martial arts training is also a budget issue )

Evacuating the building is a hassle. But if everyone evacuating the building is alive and uninjured, it's a Win .
