testtest

The two Springfield firearms performed surprisingly well.

I know those videos are ridiculous, but I find them entertaining. I do wonder how many times Springfields will have to perform well before Garandthumb stops being surprised. The guy freaked when the S&W M&P won the semi-auto pistol ice test, and has similar reactions when Springfield and PSA perform well. Just because a gun is reasonably priced does not mean it is poorly designed or cheaply built. I'm hoping he's just playing for the camera, but the constant trashing of affordable guns gets a little old.

I think he is entertaining. However, like you said, I find him pretentious. Doesn't help that his fan base treats his word as gospel. I don't see why his opinion matters more than any other GunTubers...

Agree on entertaining. He is biased to some brands

His opinion matters more to me as he was an Air Force Spec Op guy with some pretty good “real world” experience and not just a gun fanboy.

As for his dis on SA, i laughed when the guns performed well and he was shocked.
He is biased.
Guess I know my M1A and Hellion will perform in Tx winters 😁😎

This test is really not a judgement on the "brand" but the design of these rifles, and the BIG variable is where the water is able to penetrate into the operating mechanism before it freezes.

The test with the SA M1A, compared to his previous test with a Fulton M1A, really doesn't mean the SA is better since the rifle from both companies is the same design. The Fulton froze up more because water got into the internals more than the SA. Plus, the SA M1A became a single shot so I wouldn't call that a full pass.

If your operating in parts of the country that have harsher winters with regular temps below freezing keeping moisture out of the rifle as much as possible before use is paramount. There are various covers available to protect the gun before its needed.

It's pretty clear the AK was the overall winner being able to operate normally the quickest. That's one reason the Finns have used their version for decades in their operating environment.

The take home message is protect the rifle as much as you protect yourself in harsh winter conditions.

Note: While I don't recommend pouring more water into a gun with temps below 32, the troops in the Korean War pissed onto their firearms to unfreeze them during the frigid winters.

My .02

You said Texas and winter in the same sentence. So cute.

They bundle up like Eskimos once it hits 50. The Texas heat hasn't thinned my blood out yet. In 50 degrees it's jeans and a t shirt and they just stare at me like i'm mentally ill.
After 3.5 yrs in northern MN I can handle the cold in MT a lot easier now.

But we're going to be a bit chilly later this week, -20 to -45 below depending on which part of the state you're in, without the wind chill.

We’re looking at -50° windchill and full out blizzard Thursday-Saturday.

Yay.

We call ya’ll Yankees. I was one once. Long ago. 30 yrs of 106 will change your mind about cold. Its for vacations to Colorado.
Especially when at a fall ballgame it goes from 76 to 26 during the span of 6 innings
