They are finally admitting it

The problem with getting any kind of verified census is that they roam over such a large geographic area and are usually on the move. They are going to follow the food source, so if you have lots of game in your area and other conditions are right you are going to have big cats on occasion. Locals have told me they know when there is a big cat in the area because the deer behave differently. I have seen trail camera photos of panthers (and bears) visiting deer feeders. Biologists tell me the adult Florida Panther will have a range of about 300 square miles. Development affects game habitat which in turn affects cat hunting behavior.

My wife just read me this story about a local douche who this past deer season killed a mountain lion from his deer stand and posted a picture of it bragging on FB. One of his friends commented, "F You" and called the conservation department. The cat had a tag in it's ear from the Nebraska Game and Wildlife dept. So from Iron County Missouri the closest you can get to the Nebraska border is 400 something miles. So this cat traveled at least that far. The jerk admitted to shooting the cat as it was walking away from him. It ran 50 yards before it died. I'd like 10 minutes alone with the redneck F'er.
 
The timber wolves are moving on from our northern MN hunting (logging) area, and the cats have been spotted on trail cams regularly. No one has found their kills or anything, but they are around. My husband's cousin saw one from the field stand. The deer herds hang out in those tree plantations so there's a constant food source, so they may be around for a while.
 
I'm not from Michigan - Hoosier native here - and we have 'em in Indiana. I moved to Northern MN in 2021 and while passing through the UP, I spotted one crossing the highway 1/2 mile ahead of me. I knew it wasn't a bear cuz last I checked, bears don't have long furry tails. Sadly, this all happened too fast for me to pull over, stop & snap a pic.
 
Lot of sightings, including pictures, here in S. Arizona. Wandering into backyards and the like. Even a black bear. All I have ver seen are too many coyotes and javalinas.
