Dug many a "fox hole" with a mattock and shovel, but very little experience with an axe.

I wish I could say that. I cut out a fence row , for my first car , with a single bit axe.

You swing the pick into one end and use it to carry a log. You can also use it like a small log like and roll them a bit

In the right environment and in the right hands an axe is about the most versatile tool on the planet. Obviously that DEPENDS on the right environment. In the city, not much good. At a camp, it's gold.

For some odd reason I had the urge to cover my loins.

I drove it butt upward and ground it down with a belt sander, hence the black center
