We used to have Heroes who would jump in and help the Weak....Now, everybody just stands back and takes videos for "good" content!!!
Is it, though?Evil Preys On The Ignorant And Greedy!
.....Yes, crime, injustice, Evil is getting Worse And Worse, lack of responsibility and morality, decay, decay, decay , snowball and Cancer over the millennia!!!
That’s what’s called a confirmation bias.Good and evil have always been around. We just hear about it more with examples of it popping up on our phones every day in news feeds sent straight to our pockets. I don't know if we are any more evil now than we were centuries/millennia ago. However, it sure does feel like we have lost our way.
Sure in the context of the history of mankind ( or is it peoplekind ?). In the history of this country though Hayes is right. The history of humankind and the grotesqueries perpetrated against each other since day 1 is absolutely appalling. Today, news from every corner of the earth gets delivered to our screens in a never ending stream constantly triggering our outrage. A mere 25 years ago we were blissfully ignorant of 85% of this type of content. IMO, to say we’ve never seen such depravity before is disingenuous.
This is a very, very big part of the problem. Yes, evil and violence has always been around, and yes we see more of it more often today than a couple decades ago, But I believe it's hard to argue that it is in fact far worse than a couple decades ago. Forget the news cycles we all blame on keeping us surrounded by the evil, look close around you at your own close circumstances. How many folks do you know today who attend church regularly, or at least see to it their kids do? How many folks do you know personally who teach their kids that 'participation' trophies are not the answer, or that will support a teacher who tries to instill civility in their students ... (note): These teachers admittedly are few and far between these days and most seem to be far more progressive than a couple decades ago. But when you are made aware of one, do you support them?I put a lot of the blame on our ultra liberal educational system. Kids today are brought up in an environment where they think life should be fair, entitlement, anything goes, participation trophys and grades don't matter. They don't have to work to achieve anything and aren't taught basic human values. Then when reality slaps 'em up side the head, they have no idea how to deal with it and go nuts. Often resulting in senseless violence.
Abso-damn-lutely AGREE!!!I was always plugged in to real world trends in my career and I agree that evil is not new. I also agree that the 24 hour news cycle keeps it in our face.
Some individuals' behavior has always been outside the bounds of social controls. What I sense is an increased tempo of atrocity in recent years. For example, I researched mass killings going back as far as Vlad the Impaler for courses I taught and they are nothing new, but the frequency today is alarming. Events that used to shock the collective conscience have become almost routine. What I sense is an indication of foundational societal rot that will be difficult to repair.
Again: confirmation bias. This is a very, very big part of the problem. I could go on and on listing things that have changed during our lifetimes, most just simple things that we've decided are easier to ignore than respond to. Evil in all forms has increased, good people involvement has decreased, and the result is what we're seeing today. I don't claim to have the answer, except for more good people involvement. Attend local political activities and when something comes up that in our heart we know will help tear down civility, speak up, take a stand in opposition, try to make a difference.
I know it all sounds so simple, and it is. WE just have to make that stand that Hayes and others mentioned above. At some point it will have to come or civilization as we know it will end. Just this one man's opinion.
What's it called when the fact that news sources couldn't/didn't report it years ago, or that people didn't have access to the same news sources of long ago lead people to believe, or at least to argue that it didn't happen? That’s what’s called a confirmation bias.
It’s a thing. Look into it.
I don't think anyone here is arguing that 'Confirmation Bias' does not exist, but that's not what we're talking about here. When we are inundated day after day by any/all news sources ... both those we agree with and those we disagree with, confirmation bias has little to do with a reasonable thinking individual.Again: confirmation bias.

"news sources"? Brain Washing, Controlled Media, Elite Control.....Is it, though?
Show mathematical proof, discounting the higher availability of news sources.
