I understand the desire to earn some "mad money" but if you really don't need the dough, there are many opportunities for volunteer work. Volunteers are needed in many areas. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work 20 hours a week in the firearms collection at a local museum. Keeps my mind active, gets me out of the house, is very interesting work.

well.....no...

i already volunteer doing all i do for others here....

volunteering is like work........which to me, means i should get paid for it.

it's a great idea for some, just not me, thanks anyways.

Try nursing homes. I just retired from a county-run home and the Environmental Services department there didn’t discriminate for age.

that might work, and when i go senile, i'll be right there.

and not to mention, they have beds there....perfect for my naps..!!!!

I tried the other day to apply for a job thru LinkedIn at Buffalo Wings...as a dang janitor......

not a manager, not a cook, not a waiter, not as an IT Tech....a dang janitor...

it's age discrimination, it's out there, and I been getting it in spades, yet, companies are looking for workers..??

You do not need any special edumacashun to be a dang JANITOR, you just NEED to show up and clean up...

this type of job, (or custodian) is what i have been applying for at various places.

i even tried applying at a place named "LaundroMax" which is...a nationwide chain laundromat...

my "best hours" to work would be like 7 PM till maybe 2AM..(or later) hours that not too many people want or wish to work...especially those entitled twits.


working as a JANITOR or custodian, or laundromat attendant, is perfect for us retired people....low level effort, no heavy lifting, and we actually show up for work, over any snot nosed 20 somethings........

Walmart, grocery store or a small mom and pop hardware store like Ace. All in my area like to hire older folks like us. Work ethic, generally young folks are lazy and don’t know how to interact with customers .
Dont get discouraged and if it’s a place you would really enjoy I’d go in there every week and worry the crap if them till they give you a job.

i actually had thought about that as well, but the large one here, the owner is a bit of a nervous Nelly..

meaning, when he see's a customer waiting, he gets on the phone, calls the front counter, and pretty much demands a salesman ASAP, thing is, they are already helping at least 2 customers at a time. he's on the sales floor too, by the way.

he's a really good guy, but i cannot work under that sort of pressure.

all other gun stores are small, much smaller, and well, what they have working with them now, is usually family, or very long time friends, and very few outsiders.

i also thought of the public range i a member of, as maybe an RSO, or counter person myself, but the RSO (who's reloading room i bought), has told me many times, the wife of the owner, micro-manages, and changes her mind as fast if not faster, than the Iranian Bible.

i'd really like a low level, meaning no BS, work alone type of job.....jobs of which i have had in the past.
