Sawcraft is the skill of using different types of saws for various purposes in the outdoors. Saws can be valuable tools for campers and outdoors people who need to cut wood for fire, shelter, or crafting. Many kinds of saws are available, each with its advantages and disadvantages.

Good article. I was always an ax fan for camping and hunting trip wood gathering. But the older I get the more I appreciate the virtues of a good wood saw. They will keep you warm and fed faster and longer with a whole lot less stress on your body. And believe they are real or not, watch the people on Alone and other survival shows, cutting shelter poles to length with a saw is much faster and calorically efficient than an ax.

I still like axes and belt axes but I have a whole new appreciation for the saw. Am looking for a nice folding saw i have several smaller ones but want a longer model.

I've been a camper my entire life. When my sons were growing up, I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout leader. While axes and hatchets have their place, a good saw is worth its weight in gold around a camp. I'm quite fond of the Sven Saw. Its a good solid, general purpose saw and folds away to almost nothing for carry.
I also have several different types of camp saws around my house for care of my trees. ;)
